As someone who always asks myself “Why isn’t there more humor on these kinds of forums?” it seems that I have a duty to try … though unfortunately I’ll probably never get it without a really good hint, and maybe not even then. 😊

When we lived in America, a friend of mine was really happy because it was the couple of hundredth anniversary of her hometown - I pointed out that the school I’d gone to was a lot older than that, as had been most of the teachers. 😉

Since I don’t know you all that well, I should clarify that I’m not a hard-nosed using-words-correctly all-the-time type. (I don’t particularly mind when people call something in real life “ironic”, provided it’s something that would be ironic if it happened in a play. But that’s a whole other can of worms.) In seriousness, I’m a little surprised that you didn’t use the usual term “official” … although simultaneously admire you for not doing so, considering the usual problems that come along with it.

When are we going to learn that we cannot view history based on current sensitivities. All historical events must be considered in light of the religious, civil and geopolitical circumstances, beliefs and practices common to that particular era.
