No Priest, Bishop, Cardinal, or even the Pope himself has authority to grant special dispensation to Non-Catholics to unworthily receive the Sacred Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ miraculously present inside the Sacred Consecrated Host.
Even Catholics who partake of the Holy Sacrament with sins on their soul are guilty condemnation with mortal sin. Any priest or bishop who knowingly distributes the Holy Eucharist to a Non-Catholic or a Catholic who is in sin brings guilt and condemnation upon themselves.

I just watched the news on CBC and a new bit of information was said on it. Apparently the Archbishop didn’t know whether to give Harper (Evangelical) communion and sought advice on this theological matter with the Prime Minister’s aide’s.

I think its high time that the Archbishop should tender his resignation early.

People here should also know that many of the Church’s (everyone that I have attended) are disobedient to the liturgical rules about kneeling and standing during Mass. In some Church’s they will stand throughout the entire Consecration or in others they will stand after the Memorial Acclamation.

JL: I think the fault is with those who give communion to people they know and everyone knows are not Catholic. The outrage and sacrilege here is the one giving communion, not the one who does not hold the faith and may have felt it a violation of his conscience to receive it. And would his aide’s know if the PM was not in mortal sin. How dumb to ask somone’s aide.

The PM may have thought Catholics would have been offended had he refused communion, publicly offered without even his request or approach as I understand. What if he had been Catholic and in a state of mortal sin without any intention of taking communion, and the Archbishop came over to him and offered communion. I hope I would be faithful enough to refuse despite the public embarrassment. While one cannot really resign from being what he is ordained to be, he should have the title Archbishop taken from him and publicly apologize to the whole Church for his actions of causing a sacrilege.

The only non-Catholics who might be allowed to receive Communion, would be those who share a belief in the True Presence (Anglican/Epsicopal & Lutherans). And that would only be under very specific circumstances defined by our Church. Certainly it would never be “anyone at a funeral”.

In the case here though, the Archbishop had been told that anyone who wished to receive would “Come forward” but in fact, he went to the pew and gave Communion to everyone there (that happened at my Dad’s funeral and a Jew received Communion).

Harper’s reaction, holding on to the Host, makes perfect sense since in his tradition no one consumes until everyone has received and they all consume together. I’m sure that once it became apparent to him that everyone was consuming immediately, he did the same. The problem is that the video is too short to show us what really happened.

While I read on these boards that in many churches announcements are made about who may receive Communion, that has never, ever happened in my many years of attending Mass. I’m wondering if that tradition is mainly found in US churches/parishes. I know that few pastors I’ve ever had would have dreamed of making such an announcement. Even our bishop won’t tell non-Catholics not to receive Communion even if he’s approached ahead of time and specifically asked if they may do so.
