Canadian Anglican Bishops Received Into Church

This is actually very interesting because the former Anglicans in Canada are joining as a Deanery of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, which is the American Ordinariate. By extension, I would say these groups will then fall under the jurisdiction of the USCCB, not the CCCB.

I wonder if this points to something that will happen in the future. Closer ties between Canadian and American Catholics (and the CCCB and the USCCB) could only be a good thing.

This is great. How does it work? Are the Anglican Bishops still Bishops (or have they been made so by Catholic Bishops)? Ditto for priests.

It would seem so - with the entire congregations being accepted. So are the Bishops then auxilliary Bishops in their geographical area? This is really interesting.

Sometimes it feels as if the Church is hard to get into by those who want to join.

That is … find a sponsor, enroll in classes, complete a course of study and wait.

And this is not all bad. Prudence is a virtue.

There have been times when I’ve seen people interested in becoming Catholic - where the comparatively daunting task of joining by degrees, versus instant membership in “another Christian church” - gave them a problem.

The scripture where the Eunuch from Ethiopia is baptised right away by Philip (same day)
stands in contrast. The Eunuch was not in danger of death, just wanting to be baptised immediately - which Philip granted.

I suppose if the Holy Spirit whisked one of our priests by the hair to the side of an agreeably disposed non-Catholic today - some of the formalities might also be dispensed with. Lol.

In all loyalty to the Church, I sometimes wonder if we shouldn’t have a bit of an express lane somewhere at times. Here in Orange County, CA there was a parish that had a six-week course after which one could receive the sacraments. This kind of thing.

As a layperson - though I know I have the power to baptise (in an emergency) - I have never done it nor contemplated doing it on behalf of an interested candidate. I recommend RCIA. But I did recommend that ‘express version’ back when it was offered. And a few
folks from our young adult group (converts) did take advantage of that - though the parish was not their geographical one.

I have known a man who quit trying to enter - feeling that he was made to feel unwelcome due to the life he lived previous to asking to join. In that case - IMO - the priest was right to investigate his sincerity. (Details if you want them).

I am seeing more and more fellow Christians view the Catholic Church positively and feel that we all are wondering what might be done to be more than just committed allies - that sometimes seem in competition.

This article is great news. I hope to see more like this.
