The Halton Catholic District School Board committee has recommended ending a ban on “gay-straight alliances” and its replacement with an equity policy designed for Catholic schools.

These Candians sound uncommonly civil toward one another. It’s encouraging that one who self-identifies as gay reognizes that replacing the bann with an “equity policy designed for Catholic schools” is a bad idea.

I don’t know why people are going so crazy over this, it’s a private school! That means they have the right to cancel any club they want if they feel it doesn’t reflect what the school teaches. Even public schools do that! The LARP club got cancelled at my school because they felt it encourages violence (because styrofoam swords hurt so much :p) If they have a right to cancel a club for that reason, why can’t a Catholic school ban a club that teaches things that are anti-Catholic? Those guys that are trying to change the school’s mind are basically trying to change church doctrine, and they have no right to do that. If they really want to be in a gay-straight alliance, go to a public school and start one there 😛

It’s not a private school as you understand it. In most Canadian provinces, Catholic schools are funded by the taxpayers. Note that it is not simply a school that has banned these alliances, but a school board for all the schools under it’s umbrella.
