Scientific evidence refutes what you have to say. It’s not the marijuana that has made these people careless and irresponsible, they were most likely careless and irresponsible to begin with. **Go to any college campus, where you see the most brilliant teachers, innovators and geniuses the country has to offer, with IQs in the 140-160 range, and a LARGE number of those professors smoke marijuana. Some people who use it are jerks, but many people who use it are normal, hard-working individuals who use it in moderation and harm neither themselves nor others.
**
Also, one can very easily grow their own plants at home without contributing in any way to drug violence or Mexican gangs.

Your post is proof that you are already delusional. I can’t stop laughing.

The facts are there. They use mice in these studies because they tend to respond in the same way as humans to tests such as these. It can be reasonably assumed that the effects on humans will be very similar to those on mice.

Face it, you can’t argue against marijuana for health reasons because not only is it NOT harmful, it is probably MUCH more medicinal than we ever suspected. If you are against marijuana, you must be against alcohol, which is addictive and much more physically harmful than marijuana can ever be.

Saying it’s against the law is the only real argument.
Yes I can argue against it for health reasons, I have provided numerous links to studies carried out on HUMANS. Something you have failed to do.
It CANNOT be reasonably assumed the effect on humans will be similar to mice. They use mice in these studies not because “they tend to respond the same way” as us but because mice are cheap and legal to experiment on. Unless you can provide me proof that mice and humans have a similar physiology? But I bet if you did find a study on that it would probably have been tested on horses.
And yes I am against alcohol for a matter of fact. But I don’t think it should be made illegal, because alcohol can be enjoyed responsibily and in small amounts has actually been shown to help protect against heart disease (yet in large amounts, it can cause it). Cannabis however cannot be enjoyed recreationally without massive negative effects. Its use as a painkiller is good, but thats just it - a painkiller, not for getting high.
And to those saying we should use it because God placed in on this Earth for us to take, and he wouldn’t put it there unless it was going to be useful/intended for us - does that mean we should use nightshade, a poison? I mean, God clearly wanted us to take poison… point proven. God may have known it would be a good painkiller. I’m not sure however he wants you to get high to the detriment of your mental health.
Actually, mice are used in experiments because they are mammals and their DNA is very similar to our own, making them likely to respond in a similar manner to various drugs/procedures. Also, their life cycles are short, so multi-generational tests can be performed. And yes, they are cheap and take up little space. If mice did not respond in a similar way to humans during medical testing, there would be no point in using them at all, unless the only goal is to cure cancer in mice

Marijuana can absolutely be used responsibly and in moderation, and saying it cannot is a flat-out falsehood with ZERO evidence to back it up. It is very possible to use just enough so that one barely feels the effects at all, just a very minor sense of relaxation, like cammomile tea. I (like another poster on this thread) used it frequently in college, graduated in 4 years with 2 degrees and the top award in my department, and went on to earn my Master’s degree with nearly a 4.0 and a genius-level IQ. I am not trying to brag here, just to illustrate that it is very possible to use marijuana responsibly with no detriment to one’s mental faculties, one’s health, or one’s emotional well-being. Actually, it also helped a lot with my OCD.

Feel free to explain…
Anyone with a little common sense should be able to see Juliane’s point.

You make a generic claim that “most” professors at colleges have 1) high IQ’s and 2) smoke marijuana you then go on to further claim 3) that “most” users of the illegal drug are hard working normal individuals.

You offer this up with no proof.

Again, none of this matters.

The Church Teaches that we are to follow all laws unless they are morally evil. Drug laws are at worst morally neutral. You must follow the laws or you sin, period.

Yes there are countries where certain drugs that are illegal in the United States are legal. Your recourse is to move there if you want to use that drug legally not to use the drug illegally here and make up some moral relativistic argument as to why what you are doing is okay.

The Church has taught definitively on this. You can not break the law just because you do not like it.

The only argument I would entertain from now on is that drug laws are morally evil, if you can prove that (which you can not) then I would agree with you but as I said in my parenthetical comment, you can not do this.

So my time will be best spent in other threads.

Have fun and I will pray for you.

The current drug laws, i.e. the WAR ON DRUGS, are immoral. It has nothing to do with drugs, but everything to do with asset forfiture and enriching the local, state and national government. I know, I know you need prooooof! Ok. I will be happy to provide it for you if you really insist. 🤷

Mockery and insults are a common weapon where solid arguments are lacking.
So what is it when the mockery and insults are applied to an “argument” that is already not solid and is very lacking?

Seriously? O.k., let me break it down for you. The average IQ of a person who holds a PhD is 130. This is the top 2-3% of the population. To be a professor at college, you must hold a PhD, ergo, college professors generally have an IQ in the 130 range. I have taught at college and I can tell you without a doubt that the vast majority of teachers I came into contact with used marijuana on a fairly regular basis. Anyone who has taught at and most who have been students at colleges and universities know that marijuana use among the faculty is very prevalent (I have seen informal surveys that put the number around 33%, but I know of no formal studies at this point). In Canada, there are rooms specifically designated for professors who use medicinal mj to smoke on campus between classes. Yes, they are allowed to teach while under the influence.

According to the USDE’s higher education center, 30-35% of college students use marijuana at least once per year and more than 10% of the population in general reported using marijuana in the past year. 20-27% of college athletes have used marijuana in the last year. We aren’t talking about homeless indigents here, people, but normal people who have jobs and go to school and play sports. Of course, as in any group of people, some of these individuals will turn out to be losers, but correlation does not equal causation!

Also, re: breaking the law, I regard marijuana use the same way I regard rolling through a stop sign…actually, it’s less serious. Someone could be hurt if I don’t stop at a stop sign 😛

May I add Thoughtful One? Texting while driving also is more of a hazard than weed? 😛

👍 Absolutely correct. Look at all the resources that go toward putting and keeping marijuana smokers and dealers in prison.

Just for the record. When I am not globe trotting, hunting Terrorist, I DO work the road, in one of those little cars with the bubble gum machine uptop, that you really dont want to see in your rear view mirror. That being said, I can honestly say. Most domestic assault calls I get, involve some sort of Alchohol. I have yet to go on one, Where Mary Jane was a factor. I also had a neighbor who is a State Police officer, who I had this conversation with. I did not know he was a cop at that point. but when I brought this up, and asked how many cops go on calls like this where Pot was a factor, he replied, “NEVER.” 🙂 So maybe the poster who said Alchohol in moderation is ok and Healthy, needs to rethink their position?

This is almost fun - and I don’t mean to be hostile in the least.

To answer your question, what it is, is, ineffective and hurtful. You gave a better response when you pointed out the benidict made a generalization based on his personal experience only. Not very convincing on his part, but valid as far as it goes anyway.

I’m going to drop out of this thread though. It seems more combative than many and it grates, but that’s just me, and I don’t use weed, btw. Blessings.

Almost fun brotherjoe? Im having a ball! This is actually a much more enjoyable thread than fighting with anti Trinitarians like I ususally find myself doing. Also more fun than debateing Calvinist, and fundamentalist. There is not one person who can hurt my feelings here. Ive heard it all, and People do try to kill me literally once in a while. So this is not a bad gig. 😃

First of all: dodgy website.

Secondly: I can find no other source which will authenticate the claims.

Thirdly: It doesn’t prove that he was high on LSD when he made his discovery, all it says is he used it during that time of his life and the article is trying to suggest he MAY have used it at the time because of the comments he made about LSD increasing activity in certain areas of the brain.

Wow, this whole paragraph is based on absolutely nothing other than your biases. Cannibis cannot be enjoyed recretationally without massive negative effects?!?!?!?!? Where are you getting that info from? Seriously? Please show me a study that states that marijuana enjoyed recreationally has massive negative effects.
Read the thread, you’ll find plenty.

And benedict you stated that the drugs doctors give for pain relief are useless and bad for you, and that cannabis is the best thing to use. That is medical advice. I can quote you if you want. 🙂

ME- Talk about rationalization! WOW! thats not what they said during prohibition. All alchohol use was banned. So therefore since it was banned at a point in our nations history, you should not be endorsing it for any reason. Are you giving medical advice?🤷
No I’m not giving medical advice, I am stating facts. Something you have so far failed to do.

And no its not my nation, I’m British.

Wait a second, because it was once banned, I should not be endorsing it? Hypocrite. Cannabis is banned in your country, therefore you shouldn’t be endorsing it.

I’m kinda getting a little bit fed up of this now.

Maybe you’re confused because of the cannabis you’re smoking. It is ME who is the one who has been posting evidence to back it up, YOU are the one who are posting zero evidence. Ugh.

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Marijuana is more dangerous than cigarettes to your health. Furthermore, marijuana affects your judgement and your ability to discern and choose between right and wrong, making marijuana use a grave moral evil.
