They’re one with Christ, which is why they’re standing up for this current crisis.

When you have the heart of Jesus, and his blood shed on the cross flowing through your veins, you will have the same compassion He did for the masses.
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be compassion for them – not at all. It’s a question of how to implement it.
  1. I’m not for separating the families. This was criticized back when it was implemented under the Obama Administration. I’d say the House should vote to change this now, which they can do today if they wanted.
  2. What I’m saying is that they seem to be putting the cart before the horse. The direct killing of life needs to be strongly addressed before we move onto something like immigration. To put a canonical penalty toward politicians and border patrol agents for that while often turning a blind eye to pro-abortion politicians (Pelosi, Biden, Kerry, Cain, etc), it appears backwards. Priorities, priorities.

I originally put this post up. I live in the diocese of Tucson, Arizona where Bishop Weisenburger presides. Tucson is about 60 miles from the Mexican border. News organizations have reached out to him for further comments on his original statement and they have not been forthcoming. I am speculating that he sees that a hornet’s nest has development over what he said and is laying low. Frankly, it was a stupid thing for him to say since primarily Democratic politicians have had a free pass on their pro abortion stance for decades especially those located in the nation’s capitol Washington, D.C.

As I rush off to the church where Biden has been known to turn up for Mass and Communion, I agree.
I have empathy for the separated families, but it’s hypocritical to prioritize one issue over another - which is one reason why most of the bishops don’t do anything about it, soon they would be penalizing everybody.

Actually, not true re: “never.” There have been Bishops who disciplined pro-abortion legislators, including Cardinal Burke, Archbishop Carlson and Archbishop Naumann.

To be fair, there are already canonical penalties for those directly involved with an abortion and it seems this bishop is proposing the same thing for those directly involved with the separation of families. This was one bishop throwing something out there, so I doubt it will ever happen.

That being said, if it were to happen, it would be interesting to see how the decree would be drafted. Would it be limited to separating children from those charged with the crime of illegal entry or would it also apply to separating children from parents charged with other crimes (I don’t know of any instance where someone charged with a crime can take their kids with them to where they are detained awaiting their due process). If limited to illegal entry, would some burden of proof have to be met to prove actual parentage (rather than the putative parent being a trafficker)?

It seems there would be a whole host of issues to iron out. Just another reason it won’t likely happen.

There are several issues surrounding this problem. Nations have a right to secure their borders. People knowingly are breaking the US laws. These children are being used as pawns by parents and others to gain entrance in the US. And then complain when the law is enforced. Go to Mexico illegally and see what happens to you. What no outrage? Children are separated from their US parents everyday when their parents break existing laws and go to jail for crimes. What no outrage? So if people just decide to over run Vatican city would they be welcomed in and allowed to stay and be given all the benefits that illegals get in America? Isn’t that what Christ would expect from His own church? To the bishop will he be allowing illegal people to come live on church grounds and will he support them with church money not taxpayer money?

I think there may also be some element of “even if I can’t make it, my kid may get sent to live with his relatives in the states” sort of thing.
