I answered the question asked. The question was whether he would belong to the Ordinariate or the Latin Rite. The answer is Latin Rite.

He can ask to join the Ordinariate, but he enters the Church as a Latin Rite Catholic through RCIA and a profession of faith, not through the Ordinariate…

But thank you for adding the additional information.
What you wrote was this
The Odinariate does not apply to individuals converting to the Catholic Church, priests or laity. It applies to entire communities only, i.e. a parish and priest converting en mass.
And that’s incorrect information.

I was referring to Canon 96, aren’t they technically part of the Catholic Church?

I’m confused.
“Technically” yes, everyone who is baptised is “part of” the Catholic Church. Since there is only one Church and only one Baptism, all the baptised are united to that one Catholic Church.

But in the context of a conversation like this, we need to make a distinction between one who is baptised but not actually a member of the visible Church–in this case, the person is a member of the Anglican community. Non-Catholic Christians are united to the Church by baptism, but not outward members of the Church.

Thanks a lot for the clarification, makes more sense now.

They are Christians. They are members of the one church in so far as there is only one Church. They are not in union with the Chuch of Rome and canonically not Catholic.

Maybe he’s asking because he would like to know if the Catholic Church considers him to be a Catholic already? In other words, is the Church saying “you’re Catholic whether you want to be or not…”
Just a guess here.
I am in agreement as that was my suspicion too. I think, and I wasn’t sure on this hence the thread, he thought because his father was canonically Latin that he too had to be even if that’s not what he wanted. I don’t think he actually cares either way.
