We were blessed with having a Holy Cross priest today, since our pastor is on vacation. In addition to his homily on the readings and Gospel, he also shared some stories about St Brother Andre Bissett. He also brought a picture book he purchased at the Oratory. I’ve always wanted to go.

Back when I was in college, every year between the end of our summer jobs and the start of school, I and friends would drive to Quebec City via Montreal. We visited the Oratory on one of those trips. Who would have thought of the great honor to be bestowed decades later?

Worth going to visit as are the shrines near Quebec City.

I had researched it previously and read about St Andre, but I didn’t realize he was a Holy Cross brother. Our priest said the confraternity is proud…but not of the way he was treated by them in some periods of his life. 😊

His life story is fascinating. A humble, prayerful man who cured thousands through the prayers of intercession of St Joseph. My kids want us to make a family trip there. We are assembling quite a list. My wife and I also want to visit a former visiting priest in Uganda…and the Vatican, of course. 🙂

From a prayer card we were handed after Mass today, “Brother Andre Novena Prayer”, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus:

God our Father, you gave Brother Andre of Montreal, your humble servant, a great devotion to St. Joseph and a special commitment to the sick and the needy. May the example of his life and ministry inspire us to ever-greater works of charity, in generous service to our brothers and sisters in need. Give us the strength to surrender ourselves to your will, and to be instruments of your loving mercy. Help us to follow Brother Andre’s example of prayer and love, so that we too may come into your glory. Through the intercession of Brother Andre, grant the favour I now present (make you request).
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

I’ve been to St. Joseph’s Oratory four times in my life (1972, 1974, 1975, and 1994). I loved it! And it’s so wonderful that Brother Andre has now ‘reached the heights’ in being canonized as ‘SAINT ANDRE OF MONTREAL’!

I’m soooo happy for our neighbors to the North! 🙂 They have ‘one of their own’ to intercede for before the throne of God!

St. Joseph, Patron Saint of Canada, pray for all the citizens of Canada, ‘from sea to sea’.
St. Brother Andre, St. Joseph’s ‘best friend on earth and now in heaven’, intercede especially for Montreal and all of Quebec Province, that it returns to God and to His Church!
