I was also about to recommend this book, but you beat me to it! This is an awesome account of a Pentecostal preachers journey home to the Holy Catholic Church. I bought it, read it in less than a day, and passed it on to a friend. I also recommend the Suprised By Truth series (1-3)- listening to other’s conversion stories is so powerful. I am also a convert. Part of the reason I became Catholic was that a priest was extremely kind and welcoming to me when I needed some Christian advice, even though I made it clear that I was not Catholic and didn’t want to be. I was Born again, in a huge fancy mega non-denom church, and my pastor was never available to see me- always too busy. The priest of my good friend CALLED ME and said “STOP BY ANYTIME!” How wonderful! Congratulations and Welcome home, friend!Congratulations and welcome home!
I just finished reading a conversion story that you might enjoy. The book is called “No Price Too High: A Pentecostal Preacher Becomes Catholic” by Alex Jones. I got it from a locally owned Catholic book store, but they have it on Amazon.com if you cannot find it locally.
He was a preacher in Detroit for many years and after lots of study and some major upheaval more than 50 people from his church converted with him. It was especially noteworthy because I think it was the only time in many decades that a large group of black people or Pentecostals in the US has converted at the same time. (I know that I’ve fielded tons of questions as one black person who converted, so I cannot imagine the stir these folks caused.) It was an amazing story. I’m only sorry that I missed him when he spoke at my parish last year.
