Wouldn’t it be nice if Obama couldn’t get a word out for a booing crowd? If that is possible maybe some good could come from this. I’m sure Obama
would be furious

Oh, I hope not. Our DD is graduating from a rather liberal university, and I am thinking if the tables are turned, that means her guest speaker, a former U.S. attorney general, would be shouted down tomorrow. And I am really praying that that does not happen.

How about this instead? Go to Notre Dame Response website (ndresponse.com/), and then go to the “One Million Rosaries” link where it reads: “Please join us in praying for a change of heart for President Obama, particularly regarding the sanctity of life; for the Catholic character of the University of Notre Dame; and for a greater respect for human life around the world. Help us keep track of the number of Rosaries prayed for this intention by using our online counter.” I’ve already prayed my first rosary and plan to add another each day.

no it would not be nice of college students on campus showed such disrespect for the President of the United States, nor would it do anything to change the thinking of him or anyone else who shares his views, but rather result in a backlash against the boorish protesters, and silence the legitimate voices who will be there speaking through silent witness to the truth.

What if everyone in the crowd just pulled out their rosaries, lowered their eyes and prayed the rosary. Let him ramble on about himself, to himself. No eye contact from anyone.

Booing him would just give a negative connotation to the whole event.

At my husband’s graduation a very small group of people actually stood up and turned their backs on the sole conservative guest speaker. For the past few weeks there had been a campaign in school to try and get the student body to symbolically turn their backs on the pro-life speaker. Thankfully the vast majority of the student body sat there respectfully.

It was the most immature things I had ever been present to witness. One of them was giggling the whole time as if she was playing a game. She truly looked like a complete fool.

As much as don’t approve of Obama speaking at Notre Dame…if I were a graduating student there I’d be utterly mortified if people were booing him.

And THEN it gets splashed all over the news! 🤷

:bible1:“You have heard that it hath been said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thy enemy, But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you: That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh his sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.” Matthew 5:43-445
As President of the United States . . . ***the office itself deserves the utmost respect ***. . . whether one disagrees with the holder of the office and his viewpoints or not . . . however . . . by your question I am reminded of a visit Lee Iacocca, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Chrysler Coorporation, made to one of his factories when his actions created a definitely “out of favor” reaction from his workers . . . they were . . . one and all . . . (if I am remembering correctly) . . . completely silent . . . in his presence as he went through the plant . . . and this did profoundly impact him personally . . . and made him stop and reconsider his actions . . .

Simply not attending the activity at Notre Dame is one clear choice of action supporting “non-cooperation with evil” . . . and this President’s pro-abortion actions - among others - support horrific evil . . . but if one must attend for some reason or another . . . if clapping were withheld and the practice of complete silence was encouraged . . . perhaps this might be a respectful demonstration of disagreement with those at the University who made this appalling errant choice . . . as well as a respectful demonstration against this President’s disordered points of view and practices . . . and not a violation of " … Love your enemies … " . . . and if attendees were to bow their heads in prayer . . . :gopray: . . rather than attend to the President as he speaks . . . that sends an even deeper message of non-approval to one and all . . . As I write this . . . I am reminded of the adage ". . . a clear way for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing at all . . . maybe the "practice of no applause, complete silence and prayer" could be an appropriate action . . . ? . . . and a way to “do” something . . . ? . . .

I surely can understand and applaud your desire to want to do** “something”** . . .

“Hail Mary . . . full of grace . . . the Lord is with thee . . . blessed art thou among women . . . and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus . . . Holy Mary . . . Mother of God . . . pray for us sinners . . . now and at the hour of our death . . . Amen.”

Dedicated to the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart . . .

. . . pray The Rosary
:signofcross:

Yea maybe the rosary idea is the best catholic choice. I just really can’t stand Obama and honestly I have no respect for him. Sorry but even though he is not as bad as Hitler who I have no respect for either. This man will be responsible for many abortions sorry no respect from me. I would pray the rosary as you guys suggested

Preventing a speaker from speaking is known as the Heckler’s Veto. Generally, the courts have held that one has no right to exercise a Heckler’s Veto. In recent years, the heckler’s veto has been exercised by those opposed to conservative or religious speakers on campus. It is a bad practice both legally and politically. I like the the quietly saying the Rosary idea.

How about pull out the Rosary, get on their knees and pray quietly? WOW would that make a statement. Even if only 10% did this it would be quite noticeable.

**i agree, we all need to get on our knees and pray for mercy!!

If we honor a man who supports the murder of innocent babies, then we will surely all have to answer to Jesus for our cowardice when we die!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Booing or heckling a speaker at any academic event is not only inappropriate, but says a lot of negative things about the audience. We want to promote Catholic values, not look like people who have no culture or charity for others. One wrong does not fix another.

The rosary idea may be a good one. There is a better one. You do not have to attend commencement. Once you have been approved for graduation, you are finished. You still get your diploma. Students can boycott the commencement.

If one is that convinced about one’s faith, not attending graduation is a great sacrifice to offer.

Fraternally,

JR 🙂

If people boo, then the booers would be the bad guys (and thus proving all Catholics as intolerant) and President Obama would be the poor victim of religious zealotry. Look at me with a straight face and tell me that ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, and all of the newspapers won’t report it that way.

I like the idea of total silence. The students should just sit there, arms folded, looking at the floor. They should stand when the President enters the room, because doing so is respecting the office, not the man. But the applauding is a different story.

Boycotting the commencement is another idea, but I think it would only be effective if they all did it (that would be a sight to see).

But, I’m sorry to say, that none of this will happen. President Obama will go, give his speech, the people will applaud, the news cameras will say “see, this proves that the Catholic Church is wrong about abortion,” or that “modern Catholics are open minded and tolerant,” or “since the Church is wrong about abortion, they must also be wrong about birth control, gay marriage, and women priests.”

Of course, they’ll highlight those who steadfastly defend the Church, and Jesus, and stand up for what is good and moral and decent as homophobes, hate mongers, or racists. But, as we’ve all heard “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me.”

It absoultely breaks my heart, but there’s not much I can physically do about it. But, there is something better I can do (we all can). And that’s pray the living daylights out of our Rosaries. Although it may not specifically stop President Obama’s speech, it may cause Catholics to re-energize our faith.

For example, after people hijacked Vatican II to do things that were not at all intended, forty years later, there’s a chink in the armor. The old Latin Mass has been re-authorized, and websites like this one have empowered the laity against renegade priests, bishops, sisters, and brothers. It took four decades, but prayer did it.

God’s letting this happen to make us stronger. He knows that the Catholic Church will weather the storm. He’s giving us the resolve and the motivation we need to fight this thing.

Whatever else you may do, pray your hearts out over this.

how about a compromise. what if the students all prayed the rosary aloud at the highest volume they could?
-they dont boo
-they do pray
-and we can see the true colors of people(obama, et. al) that would critize prayer at a Catholic school
