Can't take communion, should I go for a blessing?

The situation currently is that individual Bishops decide if blessings at Communion are permitted in their Episcopal areas. In England and Wales for example ALL Bishops permit this - and the Vatican is aware. I understand that the guidance coming out is going to formally ask all Bishops to decide as some have not pronouned which creates confusion.

The letter others refrrred to is a private letter and has no legal status. There is a sticky on this.

Canon law is clear regarding a priests ability to Bless.
During the Mass the priest acts in the " persona Christi" person of Christ.
I see no action from the Church that will ever limit the blessings of a priest during mass
nor is one expected!
Private letters are often confusing and the original letter was clearly muddled, just look to the many interpetations that was formulated from the posting.

The purpose of the Liturgy of the Eucharist is not to receive a blessing, but rather to receive a sacrament. Add that there is a blessing for all at the conclusion of mass, and there is really no compelling “reason” to get up in line for a blessing when one is not receiving the Eucharist.

Whether or not it is proper for such blessings to be offered, methinks, is a separate although related issue.

I am waiting for my convalidation which is going to be in about four months and every Sunday I recieve a blessing at my church. This is accepted in my parish and the Priest has never given an indication that this is improper. it is extremely dificullt to not recieve communion, but this is because of the choices I have made in my past. I say you have to see what is acceptable in the diocese that you are attending and talk to the priest about your situation to see what is the acceptable thing to do in your church.

Hopefully you at least receive this from your priest, who is capable of bestowing a blessing, rather than an EMHC, who is not.

That issue has never been the laitys domain.
Ask one of the many, many, priests worldwide as to their practise of giving a additional blessing prior to the “Final Blessing” and you will receive varied answers!
