The other day on facebook, a girl invited me to attend a carwash at her church. She is Baptist, but she is friendly to Catholics (I met her on Kairos, a Catholic retreat). But I’m apprehensive about going to a Baptist church, since they are known for their vehement anti-Catholic sentiments. If they don’t know me and ask me where I go to church or what religion I am, are they going to start screaming fire and brimstone in my face? Or I am I just being paranoid?

you really think the car wash is being held to proselytize Catholics and attack their faith? have you a reason, past experience maybe or something your friend said, to think so?

How dirty is your car…?🤷😃
And how much do you like the girl???🙂
You never know, you can get your beliefs challenged in line at McDonalds:mad::mad:😛

One vote for paranoid. Most likely she is just tying to be friendly. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not a hockey game, it’s a car wash.

By attend do you mean help out, or just get your car washed? If the latter I doubt anyone will care, they’re just trying to raise money.

Jack I am a Baptist. I doubt anyone will scream at you… likely all will be glad you came, even though you both disagree on points. If friction arises, I would focus on what you and Baptists agree on. Be a peacemaker.

Besides, I am assuming its a youth function and that you are young guy. I remember being a young guy and remember that I never went to a “bad” car wash. I mean the view was always nice.

Thank you for the (name removed by moderator)ut from non-Catholics. Maybe I am being asinine. Since I live in Kansas, I tend to associate the word “Baptist” with Westboro Baptist Church, which we all know is a pseudo-Christian cult; I know Baptists aren’t inherently like them. Like I said, this girl is very friendly to Catholics.

The Wesboro Baptist Church is rather unique, I don’t think there is any other organization which spreads its message of hate for homosexuals through incest (there are only two families who are part of the church, and they don’t marry outside the group…)

You may come across some crazy Baptists, but nowhere near that crazy.

as long as its a carwash and not a date, you should be fine. other people can say your paranoid, but…if they find out your Catholic, and its just one visit there, then you should have nothing to worry about. if you start hanging out with these folks though, you may want to be prepared to defend your faith. it usually takes 2 or three visits with these folks before they start trying to bring the Mary “worship” topic up. thats my experience, and i usually dont have a choice, i work with some from time to time. so feel free to wash your car. now go take on the day…lol! Peace 🙂

jon jon jon. why are you fibbing to the guy? you know the young lady is attempting to consume his soul! first a car wash then dinner then " do you want to go to church" then " my pastor would love to talk with you sometime" lol! then “oooh my mother would just love to meet you.” then we get a thread like some weve had, because the two are getting serious and are experiencing problems in their relationship due to their respective faiths. ok im being a little extreme. but you have to admit, this little scenario is entertaining. 😉 Peace 🙂

not true exactly. i dont believe these people are into incest. if anything from what my research points to, is that if there are no young men or ladies of like mind, then they just remain single. from time to time they do get new people to join, but at the rate they are going, it is going to be a relatively short lived movement. the shakers lasted much longer than this group will. Peace 🙂

I think you’re being a tad bit paranoid. If you were invited by a Muslim friend to help out with a car wash at the mosque, would you think they were going to videotape your head getting cut off and put it on the internet? Probably not.

So stop worrying because of a few nut jobs who protest soldier’s funerals and go to the goldurn car wash 😛

They are probably going to…get ready for this one…wash your car. They want to raise money for something. Ask what that ‘something’ is, and if you approve, go get your car washed. Shoot, if you approve, go help them wash cars!

If you don’t, don’t.

If they start nattering at you, leave.

…and if they leave a stack of anti-Catholic publications in your clean car as you leave, at least your car is clean, and you can toss the pamphlets in the trashbin, feeling good about having taken them out of circulation.😉

Well I am a person who likes to take chances,so I would go. Look at it as a way to promote inter-faith relations with our separated brothers and sisters.👍

Maybe you should watch the movie “A Boy and His Dog”
The girl and car wash are just bait to lure converts
:rotfl:

Now seriously, have fun and if your faith is questioned - defend it !

Well the Westboro guys are nuts and it pisses most Baptists off that their aberrant swill they proffer as “Christ-like” actions are associated with Baptists. They are nuts. I won’t go on a tirade about it. Judging Baptists by Westboro would similar to judging Catholics by the Inquisition.

Typically Baptists are humans, just like yourself. Age considered, the difference being, that
their parents were Baptist as yours were likely Catholic.

Another poster suggested such car washes as bait. I used to fish quite a bit.

There were stupid fish that took the bait and the hook. There were smart fish that stole the bait.

I suppose I would determine what kind of fish you were first, before you go.

Thank you, Mudcat. I understand clearly. However, I have decided not to attend because I was specially invited to lead on some sort of retreat at another Catholic parish on the same day. So, I guess the problem is solved. And once again, thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut. God bless you.

I thought I read somewhere that their three generations are supported by only two families who have intermarried with each other.

Okay, forget those Westboro idiots. They’re completely out of touch with reality.
