I’m not a card person… so I wouldn’t do a card. I find them to be a waste of money.

Anyway, as for a present… something off of a registry if they have one? Or a kitchen item? Basically the same thing you’d get a couple for a normal wedding.

I’ve never understood why people make it sound like same sex couples are aliens and that they have to be treated differently. 🤷
Because buying a wedding present for someone implies that you are celebrating the ‘wedding’. Since Catholics believe that God gave the gift of marriage for man and woman in union, same-sex weddings go against the natural law. And, by celebrating something that goes against the natural law, you seem to give your approval of it, thereby dishonoring the natural law.

Aren’t we suppose to rise above the “natural law”?

No - that would be to reject nature as God made it, to say something is other than what it really is, to live a lie. We must live in harmony with the natural law.

What you could do - without telling them - is have a Mass said for each one’s soul. Not that you’re judging the state of their souls - but it’s a good gift to get anyone for any occasion. I’m a sinner and I’d appreciate it, and it’d no doubt do me a lot of good.

So in charity you’d be giving each human being involved a gift, but not the couple a “wedding” gift. Beyond that, continue to treat them with charity in day to day interactions. Be ready to give an answer if they ask, as St. Paul said, otherwise, just keep on praying for them - and all of us. The Divine Mercy Chaplet prayer says “in atonement for our sins **and those of the whole world.” **

I think you should send them something off of their registry and a blank card that you can write your own personal message in if you don’t want to get them a card that says congratulations.

It was explained quite well in the graduation analogy.

Two women or two men are physically incapable of consummating a marriage. Therefore, they can’t actually be married. Therefore, a ‘same sex wedding’ is very like throwing oneself a graduation party when one hasn’t actually graduated.

The deeper issue, as already mentioned, is encouraging people in sin.
