Well, what do you expect from the NY Post? :rolleyes:

The AP story is a little more informative.
New York’s top Catholic leaders on Thursday sharply criticized the city for “blanketing our neighborhoods with condoms,” saying city officials were promoting promiscuity and degrading society by distributing subway-themed condoms.

Wasn’t it these same politicians that Cardinal Egan embraced as his friends a couple of weeks ago when the question of their pro-abortion stance came up?:rolleyes:
 
I applaud Cardinal Egan on his stance on this issue!👍 Unfortnately, most Catholics today see nothing wrong with contraception. Hopefully a more forceful opposition to contraception on the part of the bishops will awaken Catholics and others to the moral truth that contraception is wrong. We must remember that abortion and many other evils have come about because of the contraceptive mentality, and to defeat abortion we must defeat the contraceptive mentality first.

I pray that all bishops have the courage and strength to stand up for Catholic Faith. :gopray:

I agree whole-heartedly with you francesco920. Our society today has become so weakened and easily influenced by our selfish wants and desires, that we have lost our way. Many of us have closed our minds and hardened our hearts against the “Truth” taught by the Catholic Church.

Our Bishops truly need a blessing of wisdom to help lead us back on track. I pray for Wisdom for our Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, and all the Religious leaders of the Church, that they might find a way to help open our eyes and our hearts to the truth.
 
Time to treat the USA as a missionary country that needs evangelization (or re-evangelization at least).

I agree, and I’ll add a few more thoughts. The Catholic Church needs to play catch-up here… I think many Evangelicals have had this view for quite some time and as a result, are pulling many - including Catholics - into their fold. Sad to say, at least from what I have witnessed, the Evangelical voice is usually louder and more passionate than our U.S. Bishops (with the exception of a few) when it comes to denouncing the moral and religious values of this country.

I would love to see our U.S. Bishops interviewed on television instead of Franklin Graham…and take just as bold and strong a stance as he does with his faith when it comes to spreading our Catholic faith.
 
The cause of this is that the Church in the United States has not kept up with its responsibility to educate the laity.

NYC and condoms is not the only place where these “educational issues” are erupting.

Two weeks ago, the NJ bishops issued a letter opposing the Democrat governor Jon Corzine’s decision to support same-sex “unions”.

I think Pope Benedict is steering the Church in a direction where it confronts the secularism or post-Christian culture of Europe and the U.S. He has spoken of the need for a new evangelization of the West; that the respect and fear of God must be “reborn” in those nations.

So there is hope. 🙂
