Yesterday (I don’t know where to find the a news link at the moment, but as soon as I get one, I’ll post it) Cardinal Arinze came to Steubenville to bless the cornerstone at the new cathedral. I am a student at Franciscan U, so I was able to meet this amazing example of a Catholic leader, and I received so much hope for the future of the Church listening to the way this man of God spoke about the Church.

That man is so awesome! Wow.

Again, sorry I don’t have a link yet, but it’s coming as soon as I find it.

I got excited and thought Franciscan was finally going to demolish that horrible looking chapel. Sad to find out it’s not going to happen.

I had the privledge of seeing him there a few years ago. You are right on!

This is off topic, but here it goes…

Please don’t assume from the unusual architecture that my school is somehow Protestant in any way (I don’t think you were, but it can’t hurt to explain thngs sometimes, right?). though there are (very few) Protestants that come here, we are completely, one-hundred percent orthodox Catholic in teaching (though even I will admit the charismatic movement can go a little overboard here). We have perpetual Adoration in one of the chapels, daily Mass 3 times a day, rosarys being prayed basically everywhere, huge devotion to Mary, all that good stuff. Again, I don’t think that y’all necessarily think that we might be Protestant, but I have heard that before, so just clarifying that.

Also, before anyone says anything, we aren’t all charismatic, interestingly enough. This actually shocked me quite a bit when I first moved in this year. I would even go so far as to say that the really charismatic spirituality that comes to mind is only really held by a minority of the people. A lot of us (including myself) are much more traditional and like I said earlier think that the charismatic movement is somewhat over emphasized on campus.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant… I just don’t want to create any misconceptions, and sorry this deviated fromt he topic at hand! 👍

I predict a warmer reception than he got at Georgetown a few years ago.

I used to go to Franciscan. I never said the Chapel was Protestant. I merely called it the Tuna Fish Can, which is what other students I knew referred to it as.
Sorry if I offended.

You mean the open tuna fish can?
:rotfl:

What a great way to describe it. I don’t mean any disrespect to what is housed in there, but I remember visiting Steubenville when I was a teen and seeing the chapel. My brother and I were like, “What the heck is that?” (He ended up becoming an architect.)

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I hope he builds buildings that don’t look like aardvarks, armadillos and tuna cans.

By the looks of it, it appears to be a nice Protestant school. 😃
Be nice!

As Pugs pointed out- it a fabulously orthodox Catholic school. They just have an unfortunately designed Chapel.
The architecture of it is wonderful, just odd for a chapel, IMHO.

No, thank goodness he doesn’t. 🙂 Although, he sometimes gets into that whole “functionality” concept, which I’m not too crazy about. He redesigned my parents’ kitchen and the outcome was gorgeous.

Anyway… getting back to the original post. Pugs216 - You were fortunate to have met and been inspired by Cardinal Arinze. I don’t know much about Steubenville, except from when I visited there as a teenager, what I’ve heard through people I know personnally who have gone there and through this forum. I wish you the best there. 🙂
