The question is, why ISN’T the diocese leading?

Julian the Apostate (Roman Emperor ca 360 AD) sought to reverse the spread of Christianity – converting the Jews and “Galileans” to the worship of Sol Invictus. In a letter of instructions on how this was to be done, he said something we should always bear in mind:

“For it is disgraceful when no Jew is a beggar and the impious Galileans support our poor in addition to their own

Why are we not supporting the poor – Catholic and non-Catholic – in the best way possible, by providing a quality education for their children?
One time I heard that there are equally or more important needs than the schools.

Parents close the schools. Parents can reopen them. The Diocese should lead.
My kids went to an excellent Catholic grammar school. We couldn’t say enough good things about it - orthodox, great teachers, etc. Then it closed for want of students. My daughter was in its last graduating class. Over a decade and its still closed.

Now my 4 year old grandson is in a fine school. We can only pray that it stays open long enough for him to reach the 8th grade in it.

The Diocese cries poverty - and is telling the truth - so how can it lead?

Fewer people value a Catholic education these days.

It can lead by encouraging Pastor’s to communicate the importance and needs of Catholic Education on a regualr basis. Putting them out to sea adrift with a boat that has a hole is not the way.

Why do fewer people value a Catholic education?

Materialism, poor Catechesis, Secularism, misplaced values, are just a few.

All of these are solvable. We just need a plan.

Leadership is one thing, poverty another. Does the Diocese have a Bishop? Then he must lead. If he will not lead, let him resign!

Much of our “poverty” is due to poor leadership – the sex scandal has cost enough to build and staff many Catholic schools. And the sex scandal was a leadership failure.

What effort has the Diocese made to raise money? How often do you have second collections for Catholic schools?

Our Bishop listed his goals for the future in Arkansas Catholic – there wasn’t one mention of Catholic schools.

Let the Bishop exercise good leadership, and the money will come.

Jesus led and he had no money.

I’m not impressed with Sartain either. He runs neither hot nor cold - not a dynamic leader who might be able to do what you suggest.
