Cardinal Raymond Burke has flatly denied a claim that he asked for the resignation of Albert von Boeselager as chancellor of the Knights of Malta.

I’ll take Cardinal Burke’s word. He never responds rashly, and when he does it’s with deep prayerful consideration. He is one of the great leaders in the Church today.

It’s not difficult to work out who is telling the truth (Clue: his first letter is ‘B’, his second letter is not ‘O’).

Interesting how all of these recent personal attacks against him in the media have all the appearances of a deliberate campaign to publicly discredit someone. They seemed to appear out of nowhere around about the time he asked for a clarification on how we are to understand Amoris Laetitia…

It’s interesting how Cardinal Burke is attacked for his staunch orthodoxy and adherence to what the Church has always taught, but we can all think of Cardinals who support positions that go against the Church’s teaching who are treated with “respect” and “dialogue” and not subjected to a smear campaign in the press. Bit of a double standard really…

I’d wear it like a badge of honor. Why would Satan try to bring down someone no import or faith when it comes to a position like leading the Church flock?

Oh yes, even on this forum we had members condemning His Eminence as a “rogue agent” and a “loose cannon”…predicting that the Holy Father’s wrath would come down on him shortly.

I remember reading some place here not too long ago, some report that the Holy Father instructed the former head of the Maltese Knights whose resignation he had requested, to specifically mention Cardinal Burke in the letter of resignation. I don’t know of that was fake news. But is it possible, that the Holy Father has been influenced by this version that Cardinal Burke made this request, despite the Cardinal and former Chancellor denying it? If it is a lie, it is astonishing. It takes great audacity to bear false witness against a prelate, and one of Cardinal Burke’s sturture. Disagreements are one thing, but attacking with false accusations? A cardinal? I hope like the article seems to suggest, that the man’s mental difficulties may be responsible for this. God bless Cardinal Burke. And preserve him from all his enemies, mortal and immortal.

The Holy Father was taking responsibility for the Holy See’s and his own role in Boeselager’s dismissal. He was not shifting blame on to his representative, Cardinal Burke.

Pope Francis “wrath”?
Well, he was shuffled off to a job with virtually no real responsibilities, and he has now been relieved of those few responsibilities. That is what passes for “wrath” between the Pope and his cardinals. If you are doing well you get larger and harder jobs. If you are out of favor you get less work to do. He now has none. It doesn’t get much lower than that.

He does seem redundant in regards to the Knights now, with this special Papal Delegate, yes…but I wouldn’t say he has nothing to do. He’s been in Guam these past several days trying a bishop accused of sexual abuse. Investigating and judging a fellow bishop is a weighty matter.
Mind you, from what I read, this was a task the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith assigned to him as a member of their Apostolic Tribunal.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and celebrate, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.” St. Matthew, Chapter 5, verses 11-12.

If what you say is true, then Cardinal Burke’s crown just got brighter.

The Pope appears to disagree with you. I’ll side with the Pope.

Not to mention passing references to fundamentalism, lack of mercy, rigidity, etc…

And why do you associate this the Pope has spoken with Cardinal Burke ?
What lead to make that connection?
