i am not Russian, but Bulgarian. Bulgaria is a small country in Balkans, part of EU.
about the rest, I am not going to argue with you anymore…

ok. i am very much curious about any proove, any book or documents.
i am not a nazist, neither communists, neither anti Christ, neither liberal…
i have several questions :
who are the successors of those who crucified Jesus ?
where are they ?
is this just occassionally formed group of people, or a real organization, that is trying to kill the Church and make people forget about Jesus ?
do they spread out ideas for :
  • more private freedom, going to unlimited
  • free choice of abortion
  • light drugs
  • eutanasia
  • free sexual intercourses
  • all other " liberal ideas "
have you heard about Rotarian club ? those people instruct their members to go to orthodox church, to participate in their services and so on. they do not fight against it, they try to take it over from inside. i think, until now they are very much successful.
recently we, my family, witnessed a talk betwenn two orthodox priests - one vaunted with his last model mobile phone, other - with latest model bmw. believe me, my kids were shocked ! i can never proof to them, that orthodox church is a Christian church. i can’t explain it is not the church guilty, but the clergy, that have nothing to do with Jesus…
thanks to God, i belong to Catholic Church…

Wait. Where are you located? Are you now a member of EU, which has the advantage of the western cultural influences?
We have Catholic priests in our area of USA who have cell phones and who drive BMW’s. Honestly, this doesn’t bother me too much. There are other more important problems we worry about here in USA.

obviously i was not clear about bmw and mobile phone.
the parish of those clerks, consists of very poor people and any priest supposed to live on the level of these people, or at least not make show with his belongings, who he got from financed by those poor people, otherwise they start thinking that Jesus is not his entire occupation.

if you tell me the Church condemns the protocols, i do not mention them anymore, but i still belive in existence of masonry and rotarian club is their visible part. at least one of.

about western culture influence to my country, unfortunatelly only the fashion, technologies and such things are coming to us. real culture is not something that attract easily people attention, busy to get as much as possible quick success for their lifes. you can’t imagine how bad is the spiritual life in our countries…

Well, where is the influence from Russia and from Greece? There are some highly spiritual people who have existed in those two countries. Of course, now, with the EU expanding there is the western influence. Bulgaria is still a beautiful country and has many beautiful people.

Valentin,

I don’t really want to get into this discussion with you (I’m actually pretty close to reporting you to the moderators, but I haven’t because I’m hoping you’ll desist voluntarily); but I couldn’t help noticing the similarity of what you just said to the prayer of the Pharisee in Luke 18:11. “O God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of humanity–greedy, dishonest, adulterous–or even like this tax collector.”

it is a problem with my english, i suppose. i wanted to say - from that time, everybody who was there, was very much doubtful about the honesty of those priests.
before that message, you can see, i said with regret that orthodox church, as real church, exist may be, only in Greece. i did not mention USA, sorry.

I want to visit Bulgaria, especially since I know little about it. 🙂

Envoy says Orthodox-Catholic unity unlikely

Moscow, June 9, Interfax - A complete holy communion between Orthodox believers and Catholics is very unlikely, Russian Orthodox Church Representative to European International Organizations, Archbishop Hilarion of Vienna and Austria, said in an interview with the newspaper Soyuznoye Veche of the Russia-Belarus Union Parliamentary Assembly.

“I think we should not expect the complete unity of Orthodox and Catholic rites. The division occurred almost 1,000 years ago and it can hardly be repaired,” he said.

More details on the link.

Michael,

Have you read the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium, from Vatican II? I highly recommend that you read through the second chapter. The Church maintains that all salvation is through the Catholic Church, but she allows for the possibility of salvation of those imperfectly united to her and even those who don’t know Christ by no fault of their own if they lead moral lives. We share a common baptism with non-Catholic Christians, but with the Orthodox, we share all seven sacraments in common, valid liturgies, and equivalent claims to apostolic succession. There is great hope for future communion with the Eastern Churches, that perhaps one day we can worship as one, just as Christ outlined in his Priestly Prayer.

Here is the link: vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_const_19641121_lumen-gentium_en.html

Additionally, I recommend the Vatican II document on ecumenism, which has an entire section dedicated to the Eastern Churches, Unitatis Redintegratio:

Happy reading!

This is not surprising since the Vatican refuses to budge on several key points at issue.
Whereas the ROC is eminently reasonable; particularly Bishop Hilarion. Let’s just look at what the article says, and then compare if the Vatican would ever say something like this.

The archbishop said he does not think the differences between Orthodox believers and Catholics will evaporate in the third millennium.

At the same time, certain theological differences do not hamper cooperation and possible joint protection of common values, he said.

“We will not unite but we can learn to be allies and partners. We should not be rivals, we should be Christians who may differ in certain theological intricacies but have practically the same ideas about morals and social values,” he said. For you to take the most conservative voice of Orthodoxy and say “gee, no surprise because the Vatican won’t budge” is the height of ignorance.

According to what I read, a union with the Orthodox could come about very easily and quickly if the Vatican modfied its view on a few issues.

It’s time somebody tells you bobzills - you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. I’ve believed so for a long time, but now you confirm it beyond doubt.
Whereas I think bobzills knows perfectly well what he is talking about, and that you don’t. 👍 Good thing we’re both in positions of power and influence within our respective Churches or our opinions really wouldn’t be worth a hill of beans…

i think he’s speaking for the russian church. i don’t think things are so dire between other orthodox churches and rome. in fact, it was the russians who walked out of talks last time between catholics and orthodox.

Why do the Orthodox always wear black and shun the Roman garb of black and white?

**What exactly do you mean by this, dessert?

By “black and white” are you referring to cassock and surplice? The surplice is worn only for certain liturgical functions, and not outside of them.

The Cassock and Riassa worn by Orthodox clergy outside of services are usually black–just like the Latin Cassock, and for that matter just like Eastern Catholic clergy.**

I’m reporting this to the moderator. (If anyone else is also thinking about reporting it, don’t. The moderators don’t like to get repeat reports about the same post.)

Tdgesq, you obviously have no idea what the Eastern Catholicism forum is for.
Whereas I think bobzills knows perfectly well what he is talking about, and that you don’t. 👍
Quite honestly, I think it is best not to stoop to his (Tdgesq’s) level.

-Peter.

I am very sorry to see that said by an Orthodox. It seems to me to doubt God’s power. Joe
