Britain’s most senior Roman Catholic Church cleric has called for Christians to wear a cross every day.

In his Easter Sunday sermon, Cardinal Keith O’Brien will tell worshippers to “wear proudly a symbol of the cross of Christ” each day of their lives.

The leader of the Church in Scotland, he will voice concern at the growing “marginalisation” of religion.

His comments come as a case is going to the European Court of Human Rights to allow employees to wear crosses.

In his Easter message, Cardinal O’Brien is expected to refer to remarks made by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 that Christians “need to be free to act in accordance with their own principles”.

I already do, visibly, even when I’m in uniform. And it’s not a little one. Not huge, but not little.

Right on! I shall do so. Back when I wasn’t fully practicing my faith, I still always felt reassured when I was dealing with someone wearing a cross. Hopefully, when I wear mine, other people will know that they are with someone who loves. Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

I did own a beautiful cross necklace, but I lost it. 😦

I mainly wear my Saint’s medal of St Faustina, my patron saint. I couldn’t find any in the UK so I ordered it from the US. Took a few weeks to arrive but it was worth it. I’m looking to replace the cross necklace I lost.

Well, the OP probably didn’t realize this. And, I’m happy that I stumbled upon this thread.

I would concur with Cardinal O’Brien and former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey that people of faith should be allowed to wear whatever cross they deem appropriate.

I’ll go even further and advocate that people of any faith should be able to wear whatever symbol of their faith that is appropriate to their place of employment or anywhere else they deem necessary.

I think the difficulty is that it is not a requirement for Catholics, for example, to wear a cross in the same way it is required for Sikh males to wear a turban. A lot of people have tried to argue they need to but have found it diffcult to say it is a “requirement” that should override the rights of an employer to enforce a dress code.

I wear the brown scapular of Mount Carmel, a crucifix and the miraculous medal! 👍
