“I think that, at times, it borders on scandal as far as I’m concerned,” he said of voting patterns in his diocese.
He called on Catholics to “actively dissociate” themselves from politicians who don’t oppose abortion, the Globe said.
:clapping: :yup: :dancing:

Now if we can go from borders on scandal to IS SCANDAL it would be an even stronger statement.

Praise God for Cardinal Sean.

He is truly our beacon of light in this dark world of Massachusetts.

It would appear to me that the voters have just followed their bishops’ guidance in this. The scandal is the lack of definitive action by the bishops.

Does Cardinal O"Malley allow the politicians to receive? What guidance did he give in the last election?

How heartening, but I can’t help wondering why it has taken so long. Where have the bishops been and why have they been so silent? There are about 40,000,000 dead babies and the Catholic politicians who have aided and abetted this crime have been coddled by the bishops for decades and for the most part, still are.

I don’t disagree, but let’s not always throw cold water on a positive step forward. It seems like every time a positive word is said or step is taken, the immediate reaction is to lament that it took so long or that not enough is being done. While perhaps true, positive steps are cause for joy. We all recognize that there is a long way to go.

Abortion is the greatest atrocity of all human history. The evidence that the Church is opposed to it is the issuance of a policy statements and a small mnority of Catholics with their rosaries in the streets. The condemnations should have been much louder and the organizational efforts to stop it greater and it would have been stopped by now. The bishops just replaced their elected spokesman who said Catholic politicians who support abortion should not receive Communion, should be denied, because they did not want to even do that much. They issue truckloads of statements and do nothing. The Church’s response, our bishops response tothe holocuast of WWII was heroic. THe response to this current holocuast is a disgrace.

When are we as a Church going to stand up. I agree with the Cardinal. We must make a stand against the greatest evil that confronts our country and the world. Abortion is NOT a right. Life IS a right. We as Catholics should not support a candidate who supports abortion no matter what party he/she belongs to. Sadly, the pro-abort movement seems to be gaining ground in the GOP too. I fear that if the Republicans were to nominate and elect a pro-abort president, the pro-life movement would lose a great deal of clout within the party. The country club conservatives would be able to argue that the party can win without the pro-lifers and we would be left out in the cold in the Republican party just as we are in the Democrat party.

We must continue to PRAY WITHOUT CEASING for an end to abortion and support charities such as Project Gabriel and of course VOTE PRO-LIFE.

Have I disagreed?

On the other hand, the USCCB also issued their strongest statement since Roe v Wade on the subject, thanks in large part to the efforts of certain Bishops. The last two Popes have stepped things up. I, like you, wish we could turn on a faucet and make everyone instantaneously wake up. The reality is that the small groups of laypeople and Bishops and the most recent Church leaders need to stay vigilant and turn the Titanic of secular opinion and jelly-spined clergy and Bishops around. We can either encourage the positive progress and continue to work for more, or we can whine and complain about the past.

It is not wrong to point out failures. But there is enough of that to go around with every story of an unfaithful Priest or Bishop. When good news presents itself, perhaps some encouragement is in order.

Just sayin’.

Realize that 60% of Catholics vote for the pro-abortion presidential candidates. This is a failure of leadership in their responsibility to educate, or inform. It is a failure of the Church. The Church’s position might be called lip service.

This is a great thing the Bishop has done. Now he needs to excommunicate these pro death pols after a 30 day warning to repent and instruct the specific pastor of their parish to deny them communion and discipline any disobedient priests immediately.

As should every Bishop in America. They should start by December 20th.

I was recently talking to a friend who is retired military. He pointed out that one manages things, but must lead people. I fear most of our bishops regard themselves as managers.

He mentioned a scene in the movie Patton where the general puts a piece of string on the table and shows his officers that you can’t push it; you must pull it. The bishops can’t lead from behind. They must get up in front and lead the action.

If our bishops would only do this. If they had led us into the streets and millions of Catholics surrounded the abortion mills and court houses legalized abortion would be finished. I prayed for years outside a killing center with a small group of lay people and it was finally closed. If our bishops called us to nonviolent protest and led us legalized abortion would end. They are fearful of confrontation with the enemy. They are appeasers tryng to please those responsible for innocent blood. If they would at least excommunicate notorious Catholic politicians who cause great scandal they would do something to redeem their reputations that the abuse scandals have destroyed.
