Cardinal Ouellet “Buoyant” Amidst Attacks over Abortion Comments

OTTAWA, Ontario, May 25, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Despite the beating he took in the Quebec and national media last week, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, archbishop of Quebec City and primate of Canada, is “buoyant, joyful, brimming with love,” reports journalist Deborah Gyapong.

Cardinal Ouellet was attacked by the mainstream press, politicians, and even some clergy after he made comments just over a week ago in which he affirmed the teaching of the Catholic Church against abortion in all cases, including rape.

“The child is not responsible for how he was conceived, it is the aggressor who is responsible,” he told reporters. “We can see him (the child) as another victim.”

Because of this position, the cardinal has been labelled an extremist and compared to an ayatollah. One La Presse columnist even wished that the Catholic cleric would die “from a long and painful illness.”

And to think that Quebec was the most Catholic of all Canadian Provinces but since it’s total embrace of Fundamental Secularism and Relativism it is the least Catholic.😦

I dug around on the La Presse site trying to find this, just to see what the context was, but couldn’t find it. I wonder if anyone is more familiar with navigating their site and can track that column down?

I can’t quite figure out the hysterical reaction to Cardinal Ouelett’s statemants, especially in Quebec. I mean, people are free to disagree, to criticize him, but they’re acting like he said something really unusual. Quebec is militantly secular now, but are they actually shocked to hear a Catholic Cardinal espouse Catholic teachings? Maybe it’s just been a while since we’ve had a Prelate in Canada who was willing to rock the boat. I wonder what kind of shocking thing he’ll say next. Maybe that Catholics have to believe in God? or that the Pope is infallible? Outrageous!

They’re not shocked at all. This is about intimidation, not only of the Cardinal, but anyone else who might agree with the Cardinal.
 
It also makes for political Hay.You’d have to live in this ridiculous nation to comprehend it.It’s VERY “politique”.Just ask any Quebecer what “Je me souviens” means on his license plate and stand back.This province(Quebec) for the past 60 years has wagged the Canadian dog but since their last attempt at seperation through referendum failed they’ve been SLIGHTLY humbled.

They (some-the elite)wanted to seperate from us and have their own country.In Canada each province EXCEPT Quebec is bilingual.There,English in commercial ventures,local,provincial gvernment is BANNED by law.But WE have to accodate the French even where thereare none.

They wanted their own country but they wanted to keep Canadian currency,Canadian passports,Federal transfer payments,agricultural subsidies and near monopolies(Dairy)employment insurance,Canada Pension,and the Old Age Pension,plus,plus,plus.
Ridiculous country for putting up with their blackmail and a shameless province.I say let them seperate sans any of their demands because they won’t be negotiating with Quebecers,because the instant they seperate their Members of Parliament will have NO standing.

Then,they can go live in their secular dreamworld.Eventually they’d try to join the states-they’ve got MASSIVE hydro resources-yummy,but you guys would be stuck with the biggest pain in the neck you’d ever experienced;or they’d come crawling back in thirty years and IF we took them back it would be on OUR terms.

The attack on the Cardinal was pre-meditated as that reporter KNEW exactly what he’d say and I’ll bet the Parti Quebecois or the Bloc(heads) put him/her up to it.
 
Ridiculous is definitely the word. I wish the good Cardinal were right and that the abortion debate was open again in Canada. Unfortunately the nation is way too apathetic for that. Most people don’t even realize that we have no abortion laws. I forget the name of the Conservative MP who tried to introduce a bill in 2006 to cap abortion at 20 weeks and it died on the floor.
I’m still waiting for Harper’s scary social conservative agenda to assert itself. Maybe he’s been holding out for a majority, but I think he’s been a lemon all around.
