Cardinal Pell and the forgiveness of sins

You’ll need to talk to the theologians about that. As far as I know, my statements reflect Church teachings. If I am wrong, I’d definitely admit it, but I trust our catechism. Lol! I haven’t put those thoughts through semantic gymnastics.

While it is true that the priest must decide whether or not to grant absolution repeatedly during a scheduled confession session, I’ve never heard his words referred to as casting judgment, and I’ve been receiving the sacraments for more than 70 years, to my almost constant shock! (Where did the years go?)

So far as I can think of at the moment, “judgment” comes from God immediately after death, and refers to whether we go to 1) hell; 2) purgatory, then, after expiation, to heaven; or 3) straight to heaven.

I do try to never misstate. If you can point to Church documents where I’m in error, please tell me. 😀

My questions were honest and sincere especially as we get trolls here. I and no-one else have indicated that you are not welcome nor that this is a meeting place to discusss topics. Please don’t move the goal posts.

Either you think the Cardinal is guilty, and should be defrocked and excommunicated or you don’t.

Hence why I asked if you had an agenda posting this topic with quoted comments.

I do not know nor presume to judge the Cardinals’ soul, but leave that to God. He has continued to state he is innocent. The matter is still under appeal. I think it very imprudent if not uncharitable to assume he is guilty until his appeal is heard. Also one of the 3 judges dissented from the other two and did not find him guilty and in the document those judges handed down, this judge took up a considerable amount of pages to explain his reasons why he found the Cardinal not guilty.

Matthew 7:2

God’s judgement is not handed down by priests! That is the oddest view of the priesthood I’ve ever heard.

Remember that 33.3 percent of the judgement that is, one third of the judges in the appeal doubted the validity of his conviction. That judge pointed out the embellishments of the complainant, and the changes he made to his story.
We can only truly know the truth about George Pell when we reach heaven.

Eve Australia’s canonized Saint was accused and barred from the Sacraments, to her or found grief. Sure, many believed she was culpable, because of others testimony, until finally, before she died, the Bishop recanted.

How can we know for absolute certainly the man is guilty?
As true Christians, true Catholics, it is our responsibility to pray for all involved in the whole terrible mess.Too many people have been imprisoned fro crimes they didn’t commit.
How many were never exonerated?
But bottom line, we leave the judgement of other’s sins to God. And we pray for all criminals, and all victims, knowing that God alone is our true ultimate judge.

@pete_bowes

Three years between posts is a long time, Fella! We won’t bite, I promise. We do have curmudgeons, nitpickers, young & old crabs, short fuses, & amok flag wavers who like to, uh, pronounce judgment, though! 😂😂😂 Come join our zoo more often! 😀😅😂

Three years ago I was warned here … mildly. A problem I’m forced to endure in other places, other forums.
Once upon a time CRV would not have got off so easy.

Are you suggesting a nation should not charge and thus punish someone if they have allegedly commited a crime?

Because it can be forgiven in confession? Am I reading that correctly?

I asked for clarification from you. Instead, my request is ignored and I get quoted a scripture verse. 🤔

I remember in another thread a poster posting ‘troll alert’ - which I thought wasn’t necessary and a little unkind. So instead of doing the same I thought I would ask you for clarification.

After all this is a Catholic site and as we are not to incite animosity towards clergy I wanted to establish you were not a troll wanting to bash Cardinal Pell.

Cardinal Pell is in the process of high court appeal. And because of this, the case is not yet done and dusted as they say.

We catholics are called to forgiveness. Jesus said so himself. The diabolical loves people who do not forgive. It can be as much a door open as occult practices are.

Lol! Where did you read that? Drawing that conclusion requires a lot of personal bias. 😀

I believe that Cardinal Pells situation will re define Catholicism in Australia for the good. There’s the extreme leftist who have galvanised against him on the basis that he deserves to pay for the sins of the Australian Church. There are the extreme righties who regard his demise as giving them a political edge.

In the middle is those of us on both the left and right who know he has never in any way shape or form been regarded as a perpetrator. He was an ordinary holy, educated Catholic Priest, oblivious to the vile sexual garbage that predators were perpetrating within the Church. Everyone should be aware of how Satan operates under cover of legitimacy and goodness.

The Australian court system failed Catholics this year and went with the philosophy that anyone as long as they are Catholic, can pay for the sins of the Church.

No … I’m suggesting that the way forward with a thread given way to subjectivity is usually seasoned with disrespect.

No, what I’m saying, though not too clearly, is that a court cannot forgive, it can only punish. Our law books, combined, would rival those of the Pharisees. They judged harshly and were condemned.

Forgive me, but I’m not understanding the subjectivity part, nor the disrespect.

Disrespect flows both ways.

As I’ve said now in two previous posts of mine - I was seeking clarification due to the trolls we get here baiting us, and the topic of a pedophile priest, especially one whose case is still under appeal being the topic, “raised the flag” of a possible occasion of us being trolled.

And when you didn’t simply reply with a sincere response … well, that almost left me believing we were being trolled.

Well, that I understand - and it makes matters clearer.
