There is no speculation here.

Cardinal Pell has been charged.

No one knows, at present, if he is guilty of any of the crimes he has been accused of.
No one knows what crimes he has been accused of. Frankly, I would not extradite, and in fact, most countries do not extradite without a listing of the charges. This is Australia after all.

If he is accused of molesting a minor, why not come out and say it? He can then go and face this accusation to be found guilty or not guilty. I find nothing more suspicious than silence when dealing with public announcements.

As iffy as it is the Wikipedia article on Pell has a section about it with sources. Apparently one of the charges against him is rape.

Exactly. So how can people anywhere have an opinion about it? I really see those that rush to judgement of guilt against him, or anyone as no better than those that rush to judgment of innocence and cover up crime. All are of the same cloth.
We do actually know what some of the charges are because it’s been in the news, discussed , you name it here,

But as soon as he was formally charged this morning, his lawyers slapped a suppression order on the charges, books written about him have been withdrawn from sale etc. the media was discussing the nature of the charges earler but can’t now.

Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said that Cardinal Pell faced multiple charges related to “historic sexual offences”.

No further details about the allegations, except that they involved a number of alleged victims, were given.

So we know that he has been accused of sexual abuse and that there are a number of alleged victims.

Cardinal Pell, it must be said, had already faced allegations for years that he mishandled cases of clergy abusing children while he was an archbishop in both Melbourne and Australia.

There is a suppression order now, wiki will have to remove it.

Let’s see what the Vatican says in a few hours.

But I can guarantee you, this will make global headlines given his position in the Vatican.

Pray for us. Pray for the Church

So, if this is know, can anyone link the indictment, or is this another, “I read it on the internet?” I guess what I am wonder is if Cardinal Pell stands accused of doing something himself, or this is some sort of administrative, he should have stopped it, thing. Did he molest someone?

New story, no need to bring out the cross and nails yet.

It’s legally suppressed. CAF would be in violation of the legal suppression if anyone linked any stories with details of the charges.

It’s already made the US news headlines, which is quite a feat given how the US news almost never reports anything from other countries unless Americans are involved or it’s a major loss of life terrorist attack or plane crash.

Associated press via Crux:
“Although it is still in the early hours of the morning in Rome, Cardinal George Pell has been informed of the decision and action of Victoria police,” the statement released by the Sydney archdiocese said.
“He has again strenuously denied the allegations,” it said. “Cardinal Pell will return to Australia, as soon as possible, to clear his name, following advice and approval of his doctors, who will also advise on his travel arrangements.”
“He said he’s looking forward to his day in court, and will defend the charges vigorously.”

The statement indicated that Pell will speak in his own voice at a Vatican press briefing Thursday morning at 8:30 am Rome time, meaning 2:30 am on the East Coast of the United States.

Bold text my emphases.

Cardinal Pell is innocent until proven guilty.

Then I will drop off for now and let the foolish speculation on that which is not known compound the rash judgement and anti-Catholicism such stories engender.

Yes, we must respect his right to a suppression order , as anything else could interfere with his right to a fair trial.

It will take the heat off why is a Trump on the cover of Time but not really !

If these charges are well-founded, Pell needs to be sent to the wall. The homosexual clergy networks need to be smashed, and if takes jailing and laicizing a Cardinal, so be it.

If not, his false contemnors should be sent to the wall. But the homosexuals should still take note–if a Cardinal can be tried, so can any of them.

Well said, especially the part I bolded.

Mary.

I don’t recall anyone stating otherwise. So why do you say that? Who in our midst has stated that Cardinal Pell is guilty of the said accusations against him?
I didn’t even say that and I probably posted the most blunt things.

I’ll say it upright: I do not trust Pell. The letter to David Ridsdale. The 60 minutes interview. I don’t trust him. A couple members of the abuse commission resigned when he was made the head, people who were victims of abuse by priests.

But I don’t know if he’s guilty of these charges.
