I don’t consider it a derogatory song. He just said what was on the minds of many in that part of Australia. Like he sings, just “let us know what you knew.”

He even says, “Perhaps even God could forgive you if you just let them know what you knew.” Pell traveled to France not long ago. Just go home and be honest.

As for your last comment, just because I disagree with you isn’t reason to make me seem idiotic or simplistic. Great, I know words like epiphenomenalism and phlogiston. That doesn’t address what Pell knew and what he didn’t.

Do you know any of the facts here, or do you just buy the sensational claims? The man has answered all questions put to him to date, I think the next appearance will be his 3rd or fourth appearance before various formal enquiries, none of which he has sought to avoid. No enquiryhas registered a finding that he has withheld information or not cooperated.

That is not a moral approach. Public perception is not relevant, and it surely does not justify calling that which is insulting acceptable. One lesson that some never learn is to consider skeptically that which the media feeds us. They sell advertising based on sensationalism.

Rather, charity demands:
“…to avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way” (CCC 2478)

It is also not the legal approach that assumes the innocence until guilt can be proven.

You still used the word incorrectly. The song is, by any understanding of the English language, derogatory. The word when used properly has no bearing on the truthfulness of what was said, or of any opinion. I can use derogatory words about a drunk drive that killed a family. The words may be true and derogatory.
