Cardinal George Pell’s appeal to the High Court of Australia was just granted. Convictions quashed. He’ll be released from prison later today.

Fantastic! Great news, I hope (but doubt) the media will put pressure on the system to prosecute and disbar the government officials who maliciously prosecuted him for political purposes.

Providentially, because of Australia’s extreme lockdown conditions, there will be no protesters to assault him and I’m sure that he will be relieved not to have hoards of supporters there either. God is good!

I think of all the posters here you were the most gracefully behaved despite all the abuse being flung your way in the old thread for daring to stand up for him. I think every single person who implied or came right out and said you were a sex abuse apologist owes you a public apology. Not a single person against ++Pell had a substantive argument in favor of his guilt. It was nothing but “the courts have spoken. How dare you defend a convicted child rapist?” Well, here we are! No more conviction! I guess courts aren’t as infallible as many would like to believe.

Many prayers needed for Australia 🙏
The media is replaying old footage ,so much anger and hate as there is no new footage of what’s come to pass now.

Thankyou ADG. My conviction of his innocence has always been so deeply experienced, I couldn’t help but speak out. It is a wonderful outcome!

😮

I only watched the ABC’s 12:00 news, and it was balanced.

It doesn’t suprised me though that the other media are whipping up controversy over this. Maybe even the ABC will join them after their brief display of “balance”

The media, including the ABC, have had a disgraceful record in the persecution of Pell.

Still, many prayers have been answered today!

It was always going to be hard for Cardinal Pell to be exonerated with the bias in not only much of the Australian media but also by many Australians…Australia is a secular country with 30% having no religious affiliation…even the majority of Australian Catholics are Catholic in name only and share the same anti Catholic bias as others…I haven’t lived in Australia going on 20 years and I have no doubt that has probably only gotten worse…it’s sad to see that in a country that has been blessed in so many ways the absence of any recognition of God by so many…I hope Pope Francis will reinstate Cardinal Pell to his previous position at the Vatican

Greg Craven was fantastic! His impassioned attack of the ABC is justified.

Andrew Bolt also, but Greg Craven was being interviewed by the ABC itself.

May Cardinal Pell and all who are unjustly persecuted experience the consolation that comes from sharing in the cross of Christ.

For the record: the essence of Craven’s accusations against the ABC.
  1. They had ties with Victorian police which they exploited to give frequent “updates” on every accusation as it was emerging inside the police. I add, they always made these leading news items. They covered it as if the affair was one of the most serious issues facing Australia, over about four years.
  2. They referred to the complainant as the “victim”. IIRC, before it narrowed down to one, there were multiple “victims”.
  3. On the day of the acquittal, rather than giving full prominence to the 7-0 decision of the high court as the conclusion of the case, which was also a serious indictment of the Victorian police and judiciary, the ABC diverted attention to the set of allegations which had been set aside awaiting the high court decision. “The news of the day”, he says, was the acquittal. My recollection of the ABC news on the day was that I didn’t even hear how many judges were involved - it was just reported as “unanimous”. I don’t think I even heard “full bench”. Craven is right - the full court, ie. 7-0, is an essential detail at the conclusion of such a momentous case.
To these I add that for several years before the Victorian police process advanced to legal charges, the ABC regularly gave leading news to Pell’s move to Rome, and then his stay in Rome, along with the various people (especially abuse victims and their advocates), demanding that he “return to face his accusers”, even though there were no identified accusers or charges. They gave the impression that Pell was using the Church to avoid the charges. The community perception in Australia was that this is exactly what was happening - and it was fanned by the MSM, especially the ABC.

When there were no new developments to report, they’d slip in articles from “commentators” talking about the same old fragments of “scandal” and “abuse”, over and over.

We had a disgusting song from comedian Nick Minchin which demanded that Pell return home, calling him a “filthy coward” (as I recall - I’m not going to look it up). It was widely played. I’m sure the ABC would have covered it, at least once, if not more times, as “news”.

At least we can praise the Australian legal system for the presumption of innocence until proven guilty

The foundation of the legal system has been upheld. 👍
