Okay, so…
The Tablet is obviously leading the reader to a conclusion and then stopping short of actually condemning the Cardinal. What a rotten piece of journalism.
Let’s pick this apart:
If Pell’s doctor says he isn’t fit to travel, then he isn’t fit. If Pell says he deeply regrets not being able to travel, then he deeply regrets it. But the Tablet points out how many times this has come up to draw your attention away from the facts and lead you to believe that there is something fishy going on…, as if a medical doctor is covering for the Cardinal who is trying to avoid justice
Also, it’s telling that the Tablet notes allegations of the Cardinal knowing of the abusive tendencies of some bad priest, yet the Cardinal denies the allegations. How lazy is that for journalism? *Anyone *could allege
anything, and a rational person would defend themselves by denying the claim. Why are they even mentioning this? Because in today’s social media, one is guilty until proven innocent. A person is considered suspect just by mere accusation without proof or trial. If attacked, the Tablet could say, “Hey, we’re just reporting what’s out there.” The problem is, allegations are not facts, and when you report them like this, you are obviously trying to create a cloud of suspicion.
The Tablet is not a reputable Catholic journal anymore, and this article is one more *proof *of their lazy, irresponsible reporting.
