Within a week of the release of the report last month, the archdiocese hired Gina Maisto Smith, a former Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney who has prosecuted child sexual assault cases for nearly two decades.

After Smith conducted her review of the cases, Cardinal Rigali announced on March 8 that 21 of the 37 priests referenced in the report had been placed on administrative leave.

The Philadelphia Archdiocese reported that of the 16 remaining priests who were not placed on leave, eight were cleared and did not warrant further investigation.

Priests work and live in rectories. Hasn’t any priest ever been suspicious of another priest’s actions in these matters?

EWTN did a report on this scandal and a man called in telling of one priest who has been accused. He said the priest was a big jolly guy. A lttle girl ran up to him and threw her arms around his legs. He bent down and kissed the top of her head. This is how far it has gone.
I talked to a Presbyterian friend of mine very active in her church and she said no minister is to be alone with a woman. They’ve had women accuse their ministers of improper conduct too.
There are over 250 complaints lodged against Prostestant ministers each year.

Not all priests work and live in rectories. Some diocesen priests actually own their own homes and live there espeically ones that are not assigned to work in a parish.

Priests who are members of religious institutes do not always live in the rector of the parish they serve. Those regular priests who do not serve in a parish live as their community directs but it is most assuredly not in a rectory.

To indicate that the laity have registered past complaints about his actions and that the diocese is conducting an investigation.

Retired priests often’fill in’ at parishes when the pastor is away. If they are placed on administrative leave, they cannot operate in parishes.

They are prohbited from preaching and from saying Mass in public (they can still say a Mass in private)
