What is your justification for attacking him without knowing more than just a sound bite?
The “sound bite” (aka quotation) is sufficient justification. It is, on its face, appaling.

You claimed that the context would justify it.

I won’t hold my breath waiting to hear that justification.

No I did not.
You claimed that the context would justify the quote but you couldn’t be bothered to actually explain how it would.
That was a single quote pulled out of context. He was criticizing a particular set of critics, not capitalism in general. 🤷 Context matters.
But if you now admit that the quote is unjustifiable even in context then we are in agreement.

No I didn’t. I stated a fact.

I neither admit nor deny the justification without a complete transcript and/or video in which to understand the totality and context of the quote. Without such, I will reserve judgement.

I do not know why everyone is so worked up. These attitudes are to be expected from the South American arm of the Church. Their world is quite different from the western European and US model. Austrian influenced economics do not play well in South and Central America. Just as with Pope Francis, many comments have to be taken with the understanding of from where they came. And as far as The Cardinal’s statements on global climate change, if it does not concern faith, morals or Doctrine as the Church has perennially taught, I ignore it. We all bring personal baggage to our jobs. Cardinals are no different.

Respectfully, his people are being slaughtered in Africa and the Middle East, their religious freedom is under constant assault both in the United States and around the world, the Catholic view of the human person itself is almost outlawed…why is Pope Francis writing an encyclical on the environment?? Not that the environment isn’t important (that is, a sane view of the environment, not a neo-Marxist/anti-human, junk science hammer view), but aren’t existential threats to the Church and its people what should be being discussed?

A presidential candidate calls for “updating” Christ to accommodate abortion and gay “marriage”, a lot of dead Catholics/Christians in Africa and I’m pretty sure that the environment isn’t responsible.

Just wondering…
