The truth about homosexual inclination and homosexual activity is that they are not in accord with God’s created order, his plan for mankind. A desire to commits acts of sodomy is a bad desire that should be resisted because those acts are gravely disordered misuses of the sexual faculty. Sex is about begetting children in the lifelong, loving commitment of marriage. Cardinal Sarah reminds us that the misuse of the sexual power by committing homosexual acts is “gravely sinful and tremendously harmful to those who partake in them.”

So the bridge to peace and joy is built by imprisoning gay people and persecuting them. Got it.👍
Sarah has opposed various attempts to provide legal recognition to gays and lesbians, often casting his remarks in terms of a defense of traditional Catholic and African values against contemporary secular Western culture. On 28 January 2012, the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, called** on African nations to repeal laws that place sanctions on homosexual conduct. Sarah called the speech “stupid”**. When a journalist asked if Ban Ki-moon was “overstepping his responsibilities”, Sarah replied: “Sure, you cannot impose something stupid like that. Poor countries like Africa just accept it because it’s imposed upon them through money, through being tied to aid.” He said that “It’s not possible to impose on the poor this kind of European mentality” and added that African bishops must react to this move against African culture

Ignoring his anti-human (un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/) views on gay people and the inhuman way they are treated in Africa, the man still seems to have very little knowledge of the true African culture and traditions that were prevalent before Islam and Christianity got there. which is kinda ironic considering his line of defense against “European mentality”. So who is stupid now, I dare say, huh?

With a man like this Catholics don’t even need enemies. 🙂
 
I’m reminding of that line by Gandalf in The Two Towers (from the Lord of the Rings, the book trilogy), “Say also that to crooked eyes truth may wear a wry face”.

God bless Cardinal Robert Sarah. I welcome his Wall Street Journal commentary*on the topic of homosexuality. It’s a hopeful sign that some members of the Church hierarchy have heard the cry of the faithful. To be specific: Of those who live with same-sex attraction, who sought compassion, coherence, and truth in the Catholic Church. Too often we found only confusion and tacit or outright approval of homosexual acts as well as “gay marriage.”

The impetus for Cardinal Sarah’s op-ed? The recent statements made by “some Catholic priests such as Fr. James Martin, SJ.” See Martin’s 2016 essay for America magazine, “We need to build a bridge between LGBT community and the Catholic Church.” Or read his recent book.* It has almost the same title: Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity.
Martin claims that LGBT Catholics have been “treated like dirt.” If he meant that many of those with same-sex attraction are purposefully misled by priests and Catholic LGBT ministries, he would be right. They have been treated like dirt. On a crucial spiritual issue, they’ve been deceived.

Nor am I,” Father Martin said. “Building a Bridge is not a book of moral theology nor a book on the sexual morality of L.G.B.T. people. It is an invitation to dialogue and to prayer, and I’m sure that Cardinal Sarah would agree on the importance of both.”

I liked his book about the saints, written several years ago. There is a concern about what he is presenting in his recent writing.

Your opinion involves criticism of a Catholic priest. My opinion does not. Therefore, only you need to worry about the plank in your eye. I’ve already accepted that my sinfulness gives me no standing to judge.

I wanted you too see the good work that Father Martin does with clear eyes, before forming an opinion of the man and his purpose. It is the least you can do for a man who has dedicated his life to the church.

His latest book was vetted and approved by his superior. When Jesus dined with sinners and tax collectors, a lot of people were concerned with that too. Later, Paul had to take even Peter to task for making distinctions between Jewish & gentile Christians. It has always been this way.

Wrong on all counts. Moving along, I truly enjoyed Cardinal Sarah’s words. Cannot recommend highly enough his books, especially The Power of Silence. looking forward to reading "God or Nothing’ this fall.

Our Lord Jesus Christ did not condone what the sinners and tax collectors were doing, he showed them His authority and love and many came to know and follow Him.

Jesus did not condemn the woman caught in adultery, and He also said “Go and sin no more.”.

The same is true of James Martin. Do you think his superiors would have permitted him to publish a book that contained heresy? It’s controversial, because the Gospel has always been controversial and counter intuitive. That’s why we sinners need of a savior.

That there are no absolute truths, except those pertaining to social justice (poverty, immigration, etc). This priest didn’t look very friendly. He wasn’t popular. But he had a quality of … confidence and conviction. As Cardinal Sarah remarked, the truth that he offered was “hard to hear.” It was the Church’s truth. And I listened.

Thank you, Cardinal Sarah. Your words will encourage those good pastors, and I know many, that have the fortitude to love those with same-sex attraction as Christ loves all of us. As you beautifully stated: “To love someone as Christ loves us means to love that person in the truth.”
