Cardinal Sarah: high-ranking prelates are betraying Church teaching

Very, very interesting. I have the greatest respect for Cardinal Sarah. If he has concerns, one can be assured he has brought them up with the individuals in question, and it must be with the utmost regret that he feels called up to actually bring this out in a public setting. Because it’s certainly a lose-lose situation in the short term; if indeed a high-ranking Cardinal with specialized knowledge of dogma and teachings sees his peers stumbling, has tried to help them find their way ‘back’, and has not been successful and thus has to move from the mandated "speak to them one-on-one’ to "speak to them in front of the whole Church (which of course is what we all are, the priests and laity together), there is going to be scandal exposed and there is the opportunity for dissent.

On the other hand, remaining ‘quiet’, while in the short term keeping the appearance of unity intact or ‘putting a good face on things’ and having it look as though there isn’t any dissent or problem, will almost certainly lead to huge explosions. Haven’t we had enough of ‘covering up’ scandal in the Church? Haven’t we seen what that has led to?

I salute Cardinal Sarah.

Yes, I think you have summarized this very well. It is a delicate task for someone in such a position as Cardinal Sarah to decide how to handle the current situation of the Church. As he is one of the highest ranking prelates in the Church, he has to watch what he says quite a bit more than suppose, a retired bishop or cardinal, though he does seem to be stepping up his criticism of heterodox clergy quite a bit lately, to his credit.

Although I do not think this will be a problem for much longer; I believe he was confirmed for his position in 2014 so he likely does not have much time left in his current position as his five-year term will be up soon and I don’t see it getting renewed.
