Cardinal Sarah: return to Communion directly on the tongue while kneeling

The problem is that many Church’s removed their communion rails back in the 1970’s. Of the 6 church’s in my deanery only one has retained it’s communion rail. Now granted this is a minor problem. As many of the church’s in my deanery provide a separate kneeler for those who wish to kneel to receive communion. I think the church is correct in allowing it to be optional. There have been times when I have seen people kneel directly on the floor in front of the priest as there was no kneeler provided. At communion for me, this is not even an issue but I will find a seperate thread about receiving communion in the hand.
 
“Correcting” the Cardinal makes it sound as if he’s wrong. Nothing he said about Communion reception can’t be defended by tradition.
 
Why was Communion in the hand re-introduced in the first place? Was it the cause or consequence of removal of altar rails?
 
Certain liturgical experts decided it was the more “authentic” practice.
 
Not a “faulty interpretation”. More like an ambiguous document (like most these days).

I’ll stick the the Church on this subject, not Mr. KMG. Both postures have been used throughout the history of the Church… you are certainly allowed to have a preference, but can’t impose your preference on others as objectively better… sorry!

Judging by the account related in the link in post #156, somebody “imposed” communion in the hand in the U.S., but it wasn’t the pope.
 
Communion on the hand was introduced in the 1960s/1970s in a completely illegal way in many locales. A generation and more was raised with the lie that “Vatican II” demanded it. The traditional method of reception was essentially banned in many locales. This is a sordid, sorry history that can’t be rewritten by those who want to make everything peaches and cream.
 
What that article describes is horrible…I cannot understand why God allows black “Mass” to be carried out…are the angels guarding the Host unable to do anything???

I also did not know some tourists receive the Host and take them home as souvenirs. Good grief…

You are severely misinformed. Communion is an ancient way of receiving and has been allowed during several periods in the Church. It most certainly was not introduced in the 1960s/1970s… It was reintroduced.
 
Yes, originally introduced by Arians who wanted to deemphasize the divinity of Christ.

In any case, Pius XII condemned archeologism in 1947.

You mean the distribution of Communion to men who had just been ordained bishops?
 
Or Saints in the early Church…

St. Cyril of Jerusalem encourages communicants to “make your left hand a throne for the right, as for that which is to receive a King.”
 
Speaking only for myself, I do not wish to receive without my head bowed before the Eucharist. With my head bowed, my tongue sticks down. I could just as easy wonder how people are able to receive in a manner that causes them to raise their countenance up. His suggestion works the opposite for me.

The Church practices subsidiarity, whereby each bishop makes some adjustments as he deems best for his parish. The cultural difference between my diocese and Africa are significant, for example. That may be why he is just making a suggestion.

This this ever changes, I will adjust. Maybe I will feel less haughty as time goes on.
