I kinda dread asking this; and if it gets yanked, I’ll understand. Fr. Z had a troublesome point today. " In general, appointments in the Roman Curia tend to be ad quinquennium … for a five year period… As it turns out, His Eminence Robert Card. Sarah, was appointed as Prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments on 24 November 2014… five years ago. So, in a couple weeks, Card. Sarah’s quinquennium will be up."

Astana, Kazakhstan perhaps? He’d get a friendly reception from the other bishop.

If he is replaced, he will presumably retire. He is already near retirement age, and there is practically no assignment that wouldn’t be a demotion.

He is almost certainly going to be removed when his term is up, like Cardinal Muller was. It’s no secret that he and the Pope don’t see eye to eye on many things. He’ll probably be left without an assignment just like Cardinals Muller and Burke, but hopefully he’ll continue to be active like them too.
