Cardinal under fire for new monsignors

While the Chicago presbyterate is more likely than others to be openly hostile, its not alone in having mixed reactions about the making of Monsignors. I know of one bishop who was shocked to find out that several of his newly named Monsignors refused the title. And in every dicoese there’s always some grumbling frrom some about who got the title and who got passed over.

I did not mean to imply that only Chicago priests wouldn’t like the practice. I was only commenting that, outside of Chicago, the practice has not been supressed to my knowledge.
