Cardinal Walter Kasper, president emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, will be honored at The Catholic University of America on Thursday, Nov. 6, as the 2014 recipient of the Johannes Quasten Award, the only academic award given by the University’s School of Theology and Religious Studies (STRS).

Cardinal Kasper will also speak on “Theological Background of the Ecclesiological and Ecumenical Vision of Pope Francis.” His lecture will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Caldwell Auditorium.

Monsignor Paul McPartlan, acting dean of the school of theology and religious studies, said, "Our school is delighted to give the award this year to His Eminence, Cardinal Walter Kasper, an outstanding theologian and Church leader, renowned for his work in systematic theology over several decades and for his contribution to ecumenism, particularly as president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity from 2001 to 2010.
