Washington Cardinal Donald W. Wuerl marked the Feb. 1 publication of his new book, “The Mass: The Glory, The Mystery, The Tradition,” by hosting a book signing the same day at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

I had no idea until watching EWTN - and then reading Justin Martyr’s Apologies - that the Catholic Mass was 2,000 years old.

I’d glossed over the accounts of the celebration of the Mass in the Acts of the Apostles.

What was also helpful for me, was to read about the historical relevance of the Jewish Temple covenant celebrations and how they relate to Reconciliation and Eucharist.

It was also helpful for me, learning about the Sacraments by joining our parish’s class on the Compendium of the Catholic Church.

It’s a good thing that more and more Catholics are getting the adult faith formation they need to more deeply connect with Christ in the Eucharist.
