In a plenary of Cardinals held in Rome this Tuesday, June 16, the beatification Dr. José Gregorio Hernández was approved, so this same weekend could be announced by the Pope as the new saint of Catholicism.

Father José Palmar disseminated this information on his Twitter account and noted that the only remaining step is for Pope Francis to place his signature and publicly announce beatification, which would occur a week before the commemoration of his death, which occurred on June 29, 1919.

“Today, June 17th in Rome, the last step was taken for the Beatification of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández. Unanimous vote of the cardinal consultation. Pope Francis is only expected to sign and publicly announce this weekend. On 29 June, his accidental death is commemorated,” he said.
Normally, I’d never go “translate”, except currently, there are no articles in English that I can find for this. Delete if need be. I do see there are other articles in English describing the good doctor: He passed away June 29th, 1919. So, around one hundred years ago and they are trying to make 29 of June his feastday.

He, as a doctor, administered to the poor.

First his wikipedia entry in English:

From Crux, 2014:

The Roman Catholic Church here is on a mission to document a miracle that can be attributed to one of the country’s most popular folk heroes: Jose Gregorio Hernandez.

Born in this small town in the foothills of the Andes on Oct. 26, 1864, Hernandez spent much of his life in Caracas, the capital, where he studied and practiced medicine and became known as “the doctor of the poor” because he routinely treated needy patients for free.

He died in 1919, run over by a car at a time when only a few hundred automobiles traveled the streets of Caracas. He was so beloved that newspaper accounts at the time reported that the city was left practically denuded of flowers to make the floral wreaths and bouquets for his funeral.
So, an alleged “miracle” was approved in January of this year interestingly enough:

President Maduro celebrates approval of miracle of José Gregorio Hernández by the Vatican

So, this is all rather exciting news for Venezuela and for our whole Western hemisphere. Again, I’m sorry I don’t have the initial article in English if there is something wrong with posting the initial story.

His wiki bio is interesting too. I will have to research and read about all of this. I believe the wiki bio also discusses some cult that reveres him too. That might not be good as far as that goes. It needs more reading about.

The Holy Father:
He approved miracles attributed to the causes of three Venerable Servants of God, who can now be beatified: Argentinian Bishop Mamerto Esquiú of the Order of Friars Minor (1826-1883); German Fr. Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, founder of the Society of the Divine Savior (1848-1918); and Venezuelan layman and doctor Jose Gregorio Hernandez Cisneros (1864-1919).

I will post this article separately if it has not been posted yet.
