Hey Wonko… they don’t even allow links to CAF articles or any other real Catholic stuff. God forbid anyone should post a link to the Vatican copy of the catechism or something like that.

CAF believes that so long as the material is directly related to the discussion and not just a platform for a-C propaganda that it can and should be discussed and debated albeit with charity and respect. (I know, I’ve discussed this with the Mods here.)

My gripe about CARM is that they do not allow that, and so I don’t post there anymore. there are others like them and in some cases worse. (I know…someone is saying “worse”? It’s true though, and I don’t post there either. In fact I was banned there.:rotfl: )

Worse… unlike here at CAF, the Mods and admins are as bad (and in some cases worse than) as the rank and file anti-Catholics. Their philosophy seems to be that if you don’t like it, don’t be there. So guess which option I took? I haven’t posted there since October of last year. And I won’t

That should tell us something about who’s doing things right.

Don’t support them in any way!

Luke 9:5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off even the dust of your feet, for a testimony against them…
I have been (inadvertently) boycotting carm for ages…I say, “inadvertently”, because I signed up over there, & got unceremoniously banned…all within a 48 hour period, all without ever having posted anything.
I did, indeed, at that point shake the dust from my feet. Not that I had any choice, but I wasn’t going to protest it. Any site that:shrug: 🤷 bans people for no apparent reason, without even letting them make an introductory post is too far out in a little world of their own, to interest me anyhow…

I was banned from carm in a like manner. I never was able to post anything either.

Are you sure you aren’t fudging your info just a tad? Look at CAF.
According to one poster on this thread there are 47,607 members on CAF. I don’t see how this is possible when only one or two people register on CAF each day. I took a look at the CARM site a couple of times and they look like they are adding about ten new registered members everyday. I also don’t see how CAF could have as many posts as CARM when there always seem to be more people on line at CARM.
DONT forget that carm FORCES you to register an account or you CANNOT even VIEW the threads.

The “guest” to member ratio in Catholic Answers forums is easily 2:1 at any given time. I think it is very important to allow guests to browse freely, some people are either uncomfortable creating an account or are just looking and forcing them to create an account will drive them away.

How do you all stand that? Seriously.

I love discussing my faith with other Catholics and reasonable Protestants, or even correcting some of the unfortunately popular misconceptions about Catholicism.

But, how can you all stand to go somewhere that is clearly vehemently anti-Catholic?

I really admire the patience and humility that must take. My temper gets tested enough here 🙂 , but I really do try to be calm and rational most of the times (and thank the moderators for helping me when I’m not!).

I hesitate to think of the temptation to (pardon the analogy) but be as Peter and just start slicing off ears in such a place!

Think of it as practice for Purgatory!!!

I can’t believe it I got booted off of CARM.

For what?

For posting something in response to an argument that the apocrypha was never in the bible from EWTN by Jimmy Akin.

I only posted three paragraphs of it and it was a valid to the argument.

It seems as if they don’t want anything that could really dispute their view of things over there.
You got booted because you posted a quotation from another source, instead of posting your own commentary. It is against thier forum rules.

They allow you to link to source material, but what you post must be your own words. You can also quote scripture freely, but not the deuterocanons.

I stopped posting there after making a valid argument citing scripture and one of thier regulars said it didn’t apply to born again christians. Think about that, the scripture doesn’t apply to born again christians! 🤷

Oh, well!

Browsing under the CAF membership link I find it hard to believe that there are 47,000 registered users. If there are that many than percentage wise there are fewer people posting on this forum compared to how many are registered and posting on CARM.

Well if people can’t view threads unless they are registered than there probably would be as many people lurking on CARM as on CAF…correct? Some of the people on this thread state that they have viewed anti-Catholic comments on CARM even though they don’t sound as if they were ever registered. I even thought one poster said he was banned but still lurks on CARM.

I think this just might be your funniest comment ever on this forum!!I It’s even funnier than your claim to be Methodist.

If you happened to have registered on the CARM site during the time they were under attack by hackers (which was a number of times) you would have been denied access. Everyone had to re-register after that occurred.

I made a thread pointing out how many CAF registered users didnt even post once. I couldnt understand it. As for the percentage of registered/posting I dont know the details for either place.

I cant say if that is correct because CARM wont allow unregistered lurkers. That fact alone changes the dynamics of traffic on each page. It shouldnt be a surprise to the fact Guests contribute to over 50% of site traffic.

No. Personal attacks of character are not tolerated by the moderators by Catholics or non-Catholics.
Yes, personal attacks seem to be tolerated here as well.
I have seen protestant apologists called liars and hacks without cause and without reprimands within the past couple of days. On the deutrocanincal thread.😦

The apologist being “attacked” on that thread is William Webster. Mr. Webster is not a poster on CAF. He is just a source that people who do post have given. The “attacks” are against Mr. Webster, not the CAF posters.

If, at any time, any member feels that a post violates the Forum Rules or Banned Topics Policy the appropriate action is to report it to the Moderators using the Bad Post Report button http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/buttons_cab/report.gif.

Alleging that something is tolerated by the CAF staff on the public forums borders on a violation of the Enforcement section of the Forum Rules.

If anyone has questions, they are free to contact the forum Mod via PM for clarification.

OK, I was just out on CARM. It’s pretty bad over there. I was rather bothered by the visit. I got to wondering if I sounded like those guys before I converted? Still it was kind of an affirmation that I made the right decision in coming home. 🙂

…

But the difference is that if anyone attacks the personal character, they are reprimanded and if they do not desist, they are booted, Catholic and non-catholic alike. Sometimes it may be hard to see from the public posts why a person may be booted, but there can be other reasons, such as inappropriate private messages that can bring about moderator actions. Usually, there are warnings before action, unless it is a gross area of misconduct.

It does not appear to me as if Protestants are booted off sites like CARM for making personal character attacks on Catholics Christians, nor as if Catholics are given warnings for behavoir that is unacceptable. (Guess it is hard to tell people they will be kicked off if they keep telling the truth:D )

I too have the honor of being locked out of CARM. When I registered, I actually was allowed to register even though I said I was Catholic. I was in several conversations with people, I never lost my temper, and mostly tried to bring the truth through questions rather than answers. One day I went to log on, and my password was invalid. Repeated attempts to get a new one failed. I like to think I was causing too many questions that were directing people to the truth of Catholicism instead of their caricature.

Then what does?
It’s nice when we can pick and chose what we like. Kinda like going into the produce section of the market.

I stopped posting there because when confronted with such erroneous logic there is no argument that can succeed.

I would not TRY to get booted off. I would try to shine your light. The end result may be the same, but I think it is important to keep in mind what your intentions should be.

Trying to get kicked off? No glory to God.

Trying to spread the truth of Christ? All glory to God!

Or just boycott it:thumbsup:
I haven’t really noticed how many non-Catholics get booted off of CAF but what I have noticed is if a non-Catholic is winning an argument on a particular thread that thread will inevitably get locked. I wonder why?

Care to show an example?

Define “winning an argument”…I have had plenty of threads over there where the Catholic position was very solid. There is a rule of thumb I have over there, you can always tell a good thread by the LACK of direct responses to the Opening Post ;).
