This is good news for the FSSP apostolate, for the Carmelites - and for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia – and all on St. Anne’s feast day!

Dear Friends, I’m sharing some joyful news. Today, our Archdiocese welcomed six nuns from the Carmelite Monastery of Valparaiso, Nebraska, and four nuns from the Carmelite Monastery of Elysburg, Pennsylvania. They are transferring to the Carmelite Monastery of Saint Joseph and Saint Anne here in Philadelphia (The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Philadelphia). As a result of these transfers, there is now a community of twelve nuns in the Philadelphia Carmel, which was founded in 1902. Since that time it has been home to generations of Discalced Carmelite nuns who have dedicated themselves to a cloistered life of contemplation and prayer for the good of us all. The Carmel is also welcoming a new chaplain, Father William Allen, FSSP.

👍

Not a darned thing wrong with any of that! Interesting combo of FSSP and Carmelite traditions. Let’s pray for synergy.

I agree - it is great!
Twelve contemplative nuns in the big city. I notice the Carmelite sisters often love to have the EF in their spiritual lives – and with an FSSP priest that’s the perfect match.
It’s going to be a spiritual powerhouse there. Vocations, graces, conversions – many good things will follow along!

Nice blog, Joyous! Courageous, well-balanced, and counter-cultural. 😉

I wonder if this might lead to a FSSP parish or chapel in the Archdiocese?

I hope so. That is something very worth praying for.
The FSSP wants to have full parish life and a priory of sorts with 3 or 4 priests to support each other.

So the Traditional Carmelites are really growing!!! God Bless them and the Fraternity.
This makes the second Carmel expansion this year that I’m aware of.

The other one is in Post Falls, Idaho, where 6 Carmelites went. The FSSP was generous enough to send Fr. Terra as their Chaplin. 😃 :highprayer:
