Certainly; we are free to have any private devotion(s) of our choosing.Is it possible for a third - order carmelite, to also be devoted to Divine Mercy, as a private devotion?

Start with “Christian Prayer, The Liturgy of the Hours” by Catholic Publishing Co.Hello. I have been reading about the Carmelite secular order (OCDS). It says that morning, evening and night prayer should be carried out in dalily life.
I do not really know that much about the Divine Office.
Can anyone recommend a book with morning, evening and possibly night prayer, that is good for a beginner like me?
(I want to start praying the Divine Office, but I don’t know which book to buy)

It means going to the center of your being, and resting in His presence. God dwells within and it is in Him, we direct the intention of our will.Does mental prayer, just mean talking to God, heart to heart?

However, flipping the pages and knowing the shorthand in the breviary can be overwhelming. I came across this tutorial on the LOTH and I still use it when in doubt, as the instructions in the breviary can be cryptic.I do not really know that much about the Divine Office.

Thanks for the update, Vanessa.Update: I have got in contact with some secular Carmelites (OCDS) and I will go to a meeting to see if this is for me.

And I am very happy for you, Vanessa. May our Lord and our Lady give you the “muy determinada determinacion” to press on until you reach the Seventh Dwelling Place, also known as the summit of the Ascent of Mount Carmel.From Vanessa
O hope of every contrite heart, O joy of all the meek;
To those who fall, how kind thou art! How good to those who seek!
But what to those who find? Ah, this no tongue nor pen can show;
The love of Jesus, what it is None but His loved ones know.
--- St. Bernard of Clairvaux: "Jesus the Very Thought of Thee."

In the same vein, is anyone going to the OCDS congress in Houston in September?Is anyone here going to “Boars Hill” in Oxford (England) for the Formation Secular Carmelite day on the 13th of June?

Are you sure that you’re an aspirant? Or are you a visitor at the community? The former is the first stage of formation in the Order, lasting a year, followed by two years as a novice and then three years as temporarily professed. But regardless of the stage, even after permanent profession, it’s a constant growth in the ways of Carmel: prayer, meditation and contemplation, through the teachings of the Carmelite saints, primarily St. Teresa’s and St. John’s, and of the Church.At the moment I am an aspirant. Please tell me more about formation and what is actually involved.
