This is not the first time this has happened to my church. Just in time for the Triduum. The statue of the Blessed Mother is within the enclosed courtyard of the rectory. They had to jump a six foot high brick wall to get to it! The marble crucifix hangs on the outside of our parish hall and the statue of the Sacred Heart overlooks the Bishop’s graves on the side of the cathedral. Last time, they spray painted the doors and front walls of the cathedral.

I’m very sorry to hear that.

There are commercially available anti-graffiti coatings that can be used on walls and probably statuary. That might help some.

I will never understand why people feel the need to do this.
My diocese down in Florida had a rash of vandalisms, and my Church had our Blessed Virgin statue’s face smashed in. “Luckily” it was near May Crowing, so they placed a heavily veiled crown on her.

I’m so sorry this happened. I hope that they can find who did it.

I am so sorry to hear this…we had actual blood on our doors forming satanic symbols.

It’s sad that people should do this. 😦 What a disrespect to our lord and lady. I think that every church should invest in a video camera and one of those lights that’ll turn on if anyone comes near…they shouldn’t have to, but…

In one way, I wonder if these churches get vandalized because the priest preaches the truth…and not tip=toeing in the tulips. Do you think this is a possibility?

I think some people do it because they know that these actions will draw attention and indignation, and they enjoy that.

I think it is probably a fundamentalist protestant teenager (or group of them) that doesn’t understand catholic teachings concerning statues and thinks that they are doing gods work by breaking, smashing, and spray painting them. Sad really 😦

I saw something similar when sightseeing in North Carolina. I attended Mass at St Philip the Apostle Church in Statesville. That morning, somebody had spraypainted the priest’s car and a statue of Jesus, as well as a profanity on the rectory. What a shame…:nope:

I am sorry about your parish. Keep praying for those who did this.
We all know for sure this is the work of Satan who tried to create more conflict among people. Do not let this to create more conflict but pray for each others.

Unfortunately, Baton Rouge (and by extension LSU) has a history of Satanism ever since I moved here in 1976. That it was a group of kids or young adults who did this, I have no doubt. The grounds of the cathedral are well lit but, the cathedral is located downtown. There simply aren’t that many folks about at night or in the wee hours of the morning - the nearest neighbors living downtown are at least a block away.

This is probably the same group that hit us last time a few years ago at Ash Wednesday.

I am so sorry to hear this.
And it is said that satan doesnt exist!
I am saddened especially because it hapens around the Easter time.
Surely this must show us how much satan hates the Easter event.

I hope the cathedral will consider installing night vision cameras so that the vandals can be caught and prosecuted. Not only is this disrespectful, but I believe it is a hate crime against all that we find holy and worthy. Prayers are important, but also to cease and desist this crime!
