You just explain it right! I agree with you. That is how I remind my catholic brothers and those non catholic who had a lot of question or cretiques abot catholic belief and practices. They should know if it is a doctrine/dogma or just a custom and decipline of the church. Because most of the time they interchange it.

Anyway, I wanted to post here because there’s going to be a new topic on Speak Out (Y Speak) and today’s topic (07/29/07) is Catholics vs. Ex-Catholics.

I posted about a previous episode titled Catholicism: To Be or Not? but I never saw it aired. Instead it was Private vs. Public Schools. So I don’t know if today’s topic is going to be discussed.

It was interesting to see the preview. From what I saw, on the Ex-Catholics side they had a Filipino Muslim who said “I say you should go back to the truth which is Islam.” Then there was a lady who said that “It is man-made”.

On the Catholic side there was a man that said, “Yes Christianity is man-made, for Christ was man.”

That’s all there was in the preview. I hope you all get to watch it. It’s cable channel 401 in San Diego.
Peace and all-good!

What a Catholic faithful need to do is do some research and readings. There is enough resources available in the internet now.

We are in the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ. There is nothing to be feared of.

God bless us brother and Ave Maria!

There is also a possibility of a novice catholic to be confused if he goes directly to browsing in the internet world, specially if his attention and enthusiasm fall to other explanations rather than a catholic one. In most cases, a novice catholic or a cradle catholic who has just found a spiritual enlightenment or enthusiasm thru reading the holy bible would compare what he understands thru reading to the teaching of the church and the possibility of confusion occurs. And if this confusion would not be answered immediately by the right explanation or the right interpretation from the catholic point of view, one would be an easy prey to be submissive to other views in the internet that concurs to his own understanding of what he reads.

You are right. Thank you brother.

Good sites for Catholics are Catholic Answers and ETWN.

Not every Catholic can immediately grasp the more difficult or abstruse materials about Catholic beliefs and doctrines available in the net, nor is every Catholic capable of discerning between orthodox Catholic materials and websites from schismatic/aberrant ones which on the surface appear to be devoutly Catholic when in fact they are the exact opposite.

It is best to begin by asking veteran internet Catholic apologists (Like Fr. Serpa here in CAF or Dave Armstrong ) simple, categorical questions about the faith not just to learn what the faith actually teaches but how to properly address or respond to such a question, before starting his own research and graduating to more sophisticated materials.

Good for you, kat holos! My wife is filipina and she would affirm your sentiments. Here in the States, Filipinos are often the back-bone of the parish, being involved in many levels of parish life both spiritual and educational. Give me an army of Filipinos that are well-educated in the Faith and on fire for the Lord, and I could conquer the world for Christ! 👍
Wow thank you for that compliment.

That really made my day.

May the Lord be with you always.

Welcome to CAF! I hope you enjoy posting here. It’s nice when there are many Filipinos here–I find quite a few of us here, and wish there’s more. Many Filipinos need to learn their Faith more deeply.

Welcome, hagia sophia, we are all Filipinos here, but I’m not sure who among here is a seminarian or an ex-seminarian.

Just a sort of curiosity, Fidelis, since you have been in this site, the catholic.com, for quite a time, were there good catholic apologists before who answered all these queries against the catholic faith, either biblically supported or historically supported(from the teaching of the catholic church) answers and are used by many apologists now to answer these queries ? My other question is that are there groupings of people in this site whether catholics or non-catholics or maybe racial groupings and they would choose who among the participants on a particular thread they would support or concurs ? These are all out of curiosity, my friend, and just ignore these if you feel not capable of answers !

Hello and welcome to the forums. Your username reminds me of another member who happen to share the same username but he has not posted here for quite some time. In any case welcome.

If you’re asking if all the answers you see here were provided by professional apologists who came to these forums to provide all the answers and then left the rest of us to pick up where they left off, the answer is no.

The posts you read in these forums are, for the most part, by just ordinary Catholics like you and me who have rolled up their sleeves to learn the faith on their own, debated anti-catholics and maybe got beat up a little, then rolled up their sleeves to do battle again. Anyone can learn and explain the teachings of the Faith, but they must be willing to apply themselves and take their knocks.

I don’t know of any such groupings in these forums since we all tend to act independently and speak for ourselves. We may agree with one person or another’s opinion or statement of the Faith regarding a particular question but, no, we don’t make it a point to form teams or gang up on people. 🙂

:highprayer: ya brother, i’m a bonafide member of CFD- Dipolog and Cebu city chapter and also i’m one of the National Board Officers of the CFD. Bro Soc Fernandez is our honorary adviser and Atty Bacalso is our legal adviser with Atty Abas as our National president from Dipolog City. I suppose you are a CFD? right?? If not, you should always remember that even though CFD is not active anymore in your parish , every one of us, CATHOLICS, have the right and responsibility by virtue of our baptism to spread and defend our Holy Faith. So be strong in your faith, study always the teachings of the Catholic Church. Have a “KATIN-AWAN sa PAGTU-O” or any APOLOGETICAL materials like in the internet, have a good Bible version. Most important learn apologetics by heart before engaging in a discussion with our separated brethren.God loves you and Mary keep you. Godspeed:amen:

Hello, emiljoe! It won’t be hard to contact the CFD here in Cebu if you wish to, for this organization now becomes part of Archdiocese of Cebu’s program for evangelization. One of the founders of this organization (CFD - Catholic Faith Defenders) is a well-known apologist (in Cebuano parlance we call it “debatedor”) Bro. Socrates C. Fernandez. Atty. Marcelo Bacalso is also among of the founders. At present, you may contact the telephone # of the Archdiocese of Cebu. Bro.Ramon Getamundoc is now the new President of CFD Archdiocesan, he is an engineer by profession and teaching at the CIT (Cebu Institute of Technology). Bro. Soc Fernandez is the mayor of Talisay City, serving his second term as a public official. You may also contact him in his residence telephone # 272-3475 or at Talisay City Hall tel. # 272-0669. He has also a radio program at DYRF from Monday to Saturday every 7:00 P.M. He is now the National Adviser of the Catholic Faith Defenders and has originated a free bible study every Monday from 6:30 - 9:00 P.M. at Carmel Chapel, University of San Jose Recoletos.
I am also a CFD starting from almost 30 years from now.

Mabuhay! My family and I just arrived from vacation. We been in Maryland for 4 days visiting some relatives. We visit The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and we are so blessed to accidentaly meet Fr Benedict Groeschel. He gave me a picture of him with the late Mother Theresa of Calcutta. And he asked us to pray for him. I think he just came from the hospital, he is really weak and yet excited to know that we are Filipino and he talked a lot about his missionary day in Makati, Phil. And I hope and pray that God may bestow more graces of good health and longer life to him, for to me he is a living treasure of the Church.

Hi! When I was in Fresno, Ca and listening to Ave Maria Radio one of the host of the program I was listening ( I think it was Cresta in the afternoon I’m not so sure about it ). He said that in the Phil million of catholic leave the church yearly and one of the reason is that we don’t have any evangelist. I don’t quite understand what he meant “we don’t have any evangelist”. For my understanding by virtue of our baptism we are all evangelist (Mat 28:18-20 and Mk 16:15-16). Do you think what he meant by that is that we dont have evangelist like Tim Staple, Scot Hahn, etc ?

thats true kataga…

pero for me what we need now are good catechists and apologists…

why???

many Catholics in the phils. really don’t know our catechism even the basics…

That’s why it is easy for them to jump from one sect to another…
thinking “they have found what they are looking for”, while in fact they never searched anything in our very own faith…
what a loss…

Isn’t it the message of the the late Pope JPII that the catechists are the new evangelists, the hope of future CAtholism…
