CinciMom:
I, too have stopped watching “The View”. The women really annoy me and sound like nails on a chalkboard if you want my honest opinion here.

I am wondering how this show can be considered successful in ratings. This show has no value at all.
I think this show is successful because it does go so far to the left and these women feel empowered to talk about sex and other topics that they were once forbidden to talk about in the company of men and women. Now they go public and they are really trashy at times. I can’t justify their show anymore, and besides I detest their liberal politics. Watching them is an occasion of sin for me on many levels. First their content is questionable, and then I GET SO ANGRY that I think terrible things about them as people.

The women of the View (with the exception of Barbara) are a bunch of nobodys. I mean, who has really heard of these people before this show? And, why should I listen? What are their credentials, their areas of expertise? I think Star was a lawyer - whoo hoo! That’s what we need an ex lawyer pontificating about religion! Can you tell I dislike the show?

:rotfl: I’ve thought the same things before! And Joy Behar - I’ve seen her comedy routine - I’m sorry, but she is NOT funny.

I paraphrased your title into one that was roughly equivalent… I mean, given the level of self-important ignorance of the women on that show, can any of us really say we are surprised?

It used to be the best way to watch talk shows, was on The Soup on E!, but that show has suffered a lot in the last few years.

Joy Behar has said many times over that she was born and raised a Catholic and even attended Catholic school. But she blantly has criticized the Pope, the Church and most of their beliefs particularly when it comes to the protection of life from the womb to the tomb. I have written this show to complain at least 5 times about her remarks. She is definitely not funny and as a person who is in her age category, whom she claims to speak for…I know that she doesn’t speak for 99% of us. She’s got to go and the Catholic bashing should be disallowed.

i was watching 2 1/2 Men the other night, it’s a racy show,
lots of sexual content… but, one of the lines really made me
especially angry… the house keeper was asked something,
and retorted “would a Catholic priest make a good babysitter”?

i was upset, but… i realize that in this world, nothing is beyond
being slandered or made fun of… so, i said a prayer, and got
over it…

but, now maybe i’ll send an email… lol

🙂
Are you surprised that Catholic Priests are mocked on a show such as that one? I am curious as to what is the attraction to you of that particular show? I have never seen the show but because I am an NFL fan I have to suffer through all the “juvenile humor” that is in the commercials and pre-views to TV shows. 2 and 1/2 Men is one of them. Let’s see if I can remember. Last month they kept showing a clip over & over where the young boy says to Sheen’s character, something like “why, so you can have sex with her?” (cheap attempt at humor. Use the child by saying something about SEX or have the child say a curse word). Last week the clip was Sheen’s character was obviously having sexual performance problems. These clips are shown to make the show attractive to an audience. What passes off for “comedy” on TV is insulting to my intelligence. It’s locker room, juvenile mentality laughs. Yeah, TV has come a long way all right:mad: Sorry to vent but I feel alot better now:p

Bashing the RCC for interpreting the bible too literally is ripe with ignorance in and of itself anyway. That’s why we have someone to interpret the bible for us, BECAUSE to the avergae person, it can be very ambiguous.

That’s more Church of Christ, if anything…

This is why you are to guard your eyes and place no evil thing before them. The secular world has no credibility and you should not be watching such shows. They’re toxic.

I think Elizabeth Hasslebeck(she was on survivor) is a little bit more conservative than the rest of them…and very pretty i might add, just wondering did she partake in the catholic bashing or did she just remain silent. From watching the show a few times I got the impression she kind of clashes with the rest of them.

“The View” is also guilty of another grave sin: male bashing. I am so tired of these “women” tearing men down constantly. I guess it is supposed to be entertaining for the female audience they attract, but it is wearisome and plain despicable. I am amazed that the show has remained on the air as long as it has, it is such drivel. Compare this piece of secular tripe with a truly awesome program like “The Abundant Life” on EWTN, moderated by Johnette Benkovic…what a contrast! I would rather be a “Woman of Grace” than part of the “View”.

I hope that all of you have contacted the Catholic League website and been directed to Barbara Walter’s email. You must let her know that her reading of the Catechism and leading this type of discussion on her show will NOT be tolerated by Catholics. This is bigotry, plain and simple. VOICE your displeasure…let them KNOW when they are out of line. We have a much right to fight bigotry and hatred as any other group…do it with love and charity, but do it.

I saw that, too, and it didn’t bother me because it fits the housekeeper’s character. Her character is an obnoxious, insulting boor who has no boundaries. While I can certainly understand why someone would not appreciate the comment or the show itself, this fictional character is a fictional situation that regularly mocks very nearly everything is in a different category from real people on nationally syndicated gossip shows running their mouths in order to spout their genuine prejudices.

I disagree…if that character had made a reference to a certain ethnic group’s body part and their sexual practices the entire network would have come under fire. Bigotry is bigotry…and we as Catholics need to become tired of being the butt of jokes.

I also think we need to think about the pain such a joke must have caused the victims. I’m sorry. I am a rape survivor. I do not find jokes about rape or rapists funny. Oddly enough I rarely hear such a ‘joke’ on a primetime, comedy. While I am sure such jokes are made on the more adult oriented, cable network shows, I don’t watch those…if I did, I would protest those jokes as well…because they are not only in bad taste but show no compassion for a victim of a crime.

Not only was this particular line a swipe at Catholic Priests, it was a swipe at the victims of sexual predators … gee…that was so FUNNY:crying:

I am very sorry for what happened to you LSK. You are in my prayers.

Thanks, sweetie…it was TONS of years ago…I am very healed…everything is possible in the Lord…but I would still protest jokes of that nature…does that make sense?

I did that the first day I received an email from the Catholic League. And, I am very sorry that this terrible thing happened to you. You sound like a very strong woman of faith.
God bless,

I disagree…
And you’re perfectly welcome to. I didn’t say the “joke” was in good taste or even that it was funny. It was neither, and I found it disappointing both for obvious reasons plus because (although it is crude) Two and Half Man is generally rather witty. All I said was: The comment was in character for that character. IOW, it was what passes for normal for the way the housekeeper is written. I also said that the comments - however off-color - a fictitious character are in a different category from the genuine hate spewed by a real person.

Thank you. However, the fact that something is spoken by a fictional character does not mean that it cannot be harmful. I believe that a line given a fictional character can be harmful and promote bigotry and anyone who does not protest that bigotry, who allows it to slide under the guise of it being ‘in character’ is allowing such bigotry to stand unchallenged.
