Catholic Bishop in Libya Defies Beheading Threat, Refusing to Leave

His flock in Libya has shrunk to 300 as Catholics flee, but he refuses to abandon his people, as security collapses. Militants have come to him at his church, saying he has to die. "I’ve seen the heads cut off and thought I might also end up that way, he said. “I am not afraid and I am not going anywhere.” (A video is being widely circulated showing Christian’s heads being cut off in Libya.)

God bless him. I don’t know what else to say. Praying for him and his flock.
 
He is very brave indeed. Praying to St. Michael the Archangel to protect this Bishop and his flock.
 
Reminds me of Cardinal George’s prediction.

“I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.”
 
I am the father of two young daughters , eight and nine years old, and I often wonder if I would have the courage to stay in a land where our religion would put their safety in jeopardy. I do not know what I would do…honestly.

We watch from a distance as our Catholic brothers and sisters face-off an evil entity bent on their destruction. We want to believe that this will all pass, and that our good thoughts and intentions will allow us to sleep well at night. After all, it is so far away from us.

But, then we shudder, as we ponder the Holy Lands of the Bible suddenly become devoid of Christians. Then we contemplate the more familiar lands of Europe, and gasp in shock that Christianity is dwindling there, as well( at an alarming rate ).

What can we do ? That is the question of our times. For now , we must remember with prayers all of the new martyrs, and beg their intercession. As for this brave Bishop, we can be grateful that we have such heroes still among our ranks.
