Catholic Bishop Shot in Suspected Robbery

September 16, 2009 | 8:46 am
A Catholic bishop was shot during a suspected robbery outside his Riverside County church Tuesday night, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 10 p.m., Bishop Antonio Garduno heard a noise in the courtyard of Our Lady of Tepeyac, which is in an unincorporated area of the county, authorities said. When he went outside to investigate, he encountered four juveniles and was shot. The four fled in a dark-colored vehicle.

Garduno was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Father,
Protect and heal thy servant.
Bring sorrow and conversion, and true contirtion to those who committed this crime.
In Christ’s name I ask this.

Peace
James

This is horrible. But I am confused. The article says he was a Catholic Orthodox Bishop. Was he Catholic or Orthodox?

From the article:

[Updated at 3:28 p.m.: A previous version of this story identified Antonio Garduno as a Catholic bishop. His church is not part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino.]

Praise the Lord he’s in stable condition!

When I first read this story in the news I thought the robbers also went into the church and robbed the parishioners.

Thank you very much for posting about this.

Many blessings.
