the article:The Freedom of Choice Act failed to get out of subcommittee in 2004, but its sponsor is poised to refile it now that former Senate co-sponsor Barack Obama occupies the Oval Office.
A spokesman for Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said the legislation “is among the congressman’s priorities. We expect to reintroduce it sooner rather than later.”
The article does mention a couple Catholic authorities who state that Catholic hospitals were more likely to adopt a civil disobedience approach rather than outright closure, were FOCA to pass.Ilan Kayatsky, Nadler’s spokesman, said he anticipates that the bill’s other original sponsor, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., will introduce FOCA in the U.S. Senate. “We expect it to be more or less the same bill with some minor tweaks,” Kayatsky said.
Boxer’s office declined to comment.
Rep. William Lacy Clay, a Roman Catholic, and Rep. Russ Carnahan — both St. Louis Democrats — were co-sponsors of the legislation. Neither responded to requests for an interview. Bishop Robert Hermann, acting head of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, was unavailable for comment.
Co-sponsored with how many? About 40? Obama did not write the bill nor was he a major backer. FOCA is not even a current bill in Congress. This is obviously a priority for FOCA co-sponsor Obama, as it is payback time.
Maybe we NEED them right about now.I hope and pray for two things.
- That FOCA does not pass
- That if it does, the Bishops follow through with closing the hospitals. This will cause persecution of the Church in the United States as we have never seen before. This is how saints and martyrs are made.
FOCA has been around before. It was soundly defeated several years back. The difference now is that there are more votes for it…Co-sponsored with how many? About 40? Obama did not write the bill nor was he a major backer. FOCA is not even a current bill in Congress.
The latest information I have is that portions of FOCA are being added into other bills to try and get some of the provisions passed without people being aware.Co-sponsored with how many? About 40? Obama did not write the bill nor was he a major backer. FOCA is not even a current bill in Congress.
The persecution of Chrit’s Church continues. Sometimes it is overt, sometimes covert. Right now it is quickly becomeing overt.lI hope and pray for two things.

It would be OK to seek treatment at non-Catholic hospitals, so long as that treatment has nothing to do with abortion. As far as raising fees, my understanding is that with the government health care plan, prices will be pre-determined for many procedures. What we are seeing develop is the free market system being dismantled before our eyes. This is what the majority of the uninformed electorate voted for with Obama. As a nation, we got what we voted for. We can only hope and pray that things are not squered enough so that in four years a true honest election can be had, without districts being re-aligned by the White House, which is what they are trying to do by shaving the census controlled from there. The persecution of Chrit’s Church continues. Just a question that popped into my head. What happens if Catholics have no choice but be cared for illnesses, emergencies in a hospital that provides abortions? If we have no other choice? Am I being paranoid in the extreme? First, there would be a conscience issue, then one of trust if only pro-abort medicos were working in the hospitals?
Could Catholic Hospitals raise their fees so high for abortions, contraceptives, that no one could afford them? I suppose the insurance agency would have a word to say about that. ???
When this nation gets its punishment it deserves. Otherwise, the 360 change wouldn’t be coming anytime soon.Who in America deserves “choice”? Do ethical doctors and nurses not also deserve “choice”? I would think that the Freedom of Choice Act would give the freedom to those who have studied medicine to choose the most ethical and safe way to deliver medicine. Why is it that the government along with all its lawyers has annointed itself the god of all professions! When will the day come when lawyers will be forced to practice ethical law? The government gods seem to be the only ones exempt from restrictions.![]()
Pretty soon our country will be re named Iraq. We already have our Hussein. What is going to stop these people? They are destroying every law, institution of individual freedom this country is built on.It would be OK to seek treatment at non-Catholic hospitals, so long as that treatment has nothing to do with abortion. Lets not forget that our most powerful weapon against all this is prayer. Everyone praying the rosary changed the course of European history at the battle of Lepanto. If you are not now praying, start. All of you - pray the rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, start adoration if you are not doing so now. Pray - Pray - Pray.Pretty soon our country will be re named Iraq. We already have our Hussein. What is going to stop these people? They are destroying every law, institution of individual freedom this country is built on.
