Afraid I’m gonna have to disagree with this one. As an alternative may I recommend:

Living the Truth in Love by Paul Check and Janet Smith
The Homosexual Person by Fr. John Harvey
The Truth About Homosexuality by Fr. Harvey
Beyond Gay by David Morrison
The Battle for Normality by Gerard J. M. Van den Aardweg (Amazon won’t even sell this anymore; it’s from Ignatius Press, a premier Catholic publisher)

These are a few of the books that made a deep impression on me when I first read them:

Fundamentals of the Faith, by Peter Kreeft (all of his books are good!)
The Seven Storey Mountain, by Thomas Merton
Introduction to the Devout Life, by St. Francis de Sales
The Name of God is Mercy, by Pope Francis
The Complete Julian of Norwich, by Fr. John-Julian
The Rule of St. Benedict (there are numerous translations, and commentaries too)
Into the Silent Land, by Martin Laird
The Way of A Pilgrim, and The Pilgrim Continues His Way, by the anonymous pilgrim (from the Orthodox Christian tradition, but I was deeply moved when I read it)

Keep the bolded part in mind, not just for that book but for others they (for now) still sell. Amazon’s hefty commission makes it much harder for independent publishers, or independent any business, to survive. They have to go on Amazon because they know you and I are shopping there, but they’d much prefer to sell directly to you.

Consider doing your window shopping on Amazon, but your actual ordering from independent small companies that originate the products.

the Lord of the Ring has been written by a Catholic, and have some christian inspirations (such as the battle against good and bad, sacrifice…), among others, but are not especially Catholics litterature.
LOTR is very Catholic. There is lots of analysis of its Catholicism by orthodox Catholic writers such as Peter Kreeft and Joseph Pearce.

I realize sometimes critics read into a work themes that aren’t really intended, but in this case we have a great deal of background data - Tolkein’s letters, interviews, his discussions with others during the preparation of the book.

It’s a Catholic book.

The Church and the Roman Empire

Good Pope, Bad Pope

(both by Mike Aquilina)

These are all pretty serious books, and they’re good suggestions, but if you enjoy fiction, I recommend the Father Gabriel mystery series by Fiorela de Maria. A British author, she has written about a priest and his ability to solve crimes in the post WWII English countryside. They are very entertaining and quite Catholic.

Conversion stories of Fr. Donald Calloway, Tim Staples, Scott Hahn, and re-version of Jeff Cavins.
