Catholic cardinal: Church 'caricatured' as anti-gay

Cardinal Dolan is right, the Church is caricatured as “anti-gay” and that is sad. What people don’t understand is that we are not against gay people. However, we are against gay marriage and unchastity among both heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, and anyone else.

He said the money was collected from additional offerings specifically for the marriage amendment fight.

Monies were collected VOLUNTARILY from parishioners SPECFICALLY to support legislation that supports traditional marriage. The archdiocese did not take money out of operating funds,soup kitchens or homeless shelters.

It is clear that the writer of this article was very homosexualist and an advocate for same sex marriage. They posit is as “equality” rather than something completely different than traditional marriage with the same name.

Again, please read the article and distinguish between spin, opinion and reality.

As far as this thread is concerned, Cardinal Timothy Dolan is the cardinal in question. Pro-life activist Judie Brown has been critical of him. Does anyone on CAF think that her concerns are legitimate?
 
Perhaps because of the optics. I believe she criticizes his attending the Al Smith dinner where Obama the radical pro abortion president was also seated at the head table. Apparently she believed he was unwilling to attend an event with her sitting at the head table. Whether that conclusion is legitimate I don’t know.

Cardinal Dolan did defend his attendance at the Al Smith dinner as modeled upon Jesus who also dined with sinners. Also presumably he could have spoken again to Obama about his radical pro abortion stance. (I would perhaps suggest a gallon of Holy water and may an exorcism 😃 would be appropriate as well).

In his defense Cardinal Dolan has publically criticized Obama, not only for his support of abortion and other pro death philosophies that he holds, but also pretty much called him a liar for his promise to provide a REAL accommodation to the HHS Mandate when it was clear he had no such intention. So he doesn’t really give Obama a pass even though he’s willing to sit in close proximity.

How’s that for sitting solidly on the fence? My personal opinion is that Cardinal Dolan should have used the Smith dinner to make a point by speaking out against abortion and the Obama administration’s zealous and frankly over reaching support for all things abortion related rather than appearing to be having a jolly old time with him. While we as Catholics understand the reasoning behind the decision, it simply gives the Leftist media a photo op to claim that Cardinal Dolan supports Obama…ugh.

Not really. If the Church was actively working to get legislation passed forcing all homosexuals to register with the government, bar them from working somewhere, prohibit them from voting or from being served at restaurants or shopping malls, then the Church would be decidedly anti-gay.

However, the Church supports none of these things. The Church supports what it always has supported: helping souls reach Heaven.

It’s the same mentality of if you don’t date interracially you must be a racist or if you don’t want to pay for Sandra Fluke’s contraception, you must be anti-woman.

In a generation there will probably some other group that’s the focus of progressives (well, assuming progressive lasts that long on the national scene).

This really isn’t going to end and it just shows how dangerous people can be when they get obsessed with “equality”.

Ah yes the god equality! Most favored status amongst the Leftists! As you point out look what happens when people become obsessed with (their interpretation) of equality. Compare the French Revolution (liberty, brotherhood and EQUALITY) versus our own life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Which one ended up with ‘heads rolling’ as it were? Oh and the equality jones during the Russian Revolution is yet another example.

The real mystery is why Leftists cling like barnacles to these invariably unsuccessful approaches to structuring society? But then for the Left, truth is not a value or the objective…
