Very, very true…or in some cases…as with infanticide happy politicians…they like claiming the title of Catholic just to “show the country” just how faithful and devout they are…can you say hypocrisy in action…I can see them now in a group…“Let us now pray for abortion, embryonic stem cell research, homosexual marriage, euthanasia, etc.”
:rotfl:

I would really be ashamed to admit that my views are the same as “mainstream” Catholics nowadays.

Half of them don’t know what it is to be Catholic and a quarter dont’ care. They want the pretty church for weddings, baptisms and First Communions.

. I have a very hard time relating to someone who is getting upset about hand-holding. So, it’s a waste of time.
well I have a very hard time relating to someone that can not grasp the basics…

Holding Hands during the Our Father
**
Holding hands during the Our Father has become commonplace, but it is an illicit addition to the Liturgy. Clarifications and Interpretations of the GIRM “Notitiae” Vol. XI (1975) p. 226] explains:
". . .holding hands is a sign of intimacy and not reconciliation, and as such disrupts the flow of the Sacramental signs in the Mass which leads to the Sacramental sign of intimacy with Christ and our neighbor, Holy Communion."
As for my views, being outlandish. That’s just ridiculous since my views are fairly mainstream.
yes your views may be mainstream but that does not make them correct!
You may think that I am wrong, but I am certainly not some renegade on the fringe. Which brings me to point I was actually making with the last post. I am not implying that you are not catholics, but perhaps, a little out of touch with most catholics
I would rather be out fo touch with some Catholics…then out of touch with what our Church teaches;)
And frankly, I can’t stand that people think things like hold hands or raising your hands is a crisis.
May I direct you to the first post above…it is a CRISIS! I cant stand that people do not understand that!

The majority of the country at one point in time used to think slavery was acceptable and necessary…their views were mainstream enough, that it was even legal in this country (A Christian country I might add) for some time…those that supported slavery were not on the fringe of society either…they were the majority. My point is that even if 99% of all people believe in a false idea…they are still wrong. Being in the majority doesn’t automatically make them right…it just means that 99% of them are wrong…while 1% of them hold on to the truth. God Bless.
You suggested that my position is outlandish. You may think it’s wrong, but it’s not by definition, outlandish.

But let’s look at this again. You are comparing my nonchalance about what people do with their hands during mass to slavery. Some people might call that outlandish.

I was simply pointing out that he had mischaracterized my position. He acted as if I was some renegade , which I am not.

As for the views of most catholics, I agree with you 100% that there are SERIOUS problems with mainstream catholics, which is why I am begging you to please focus your attention to those VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS.

In fact, we could probably ally on most issues to help renew our church. There are literally hundreds of ways on which we agree on matters that most catholics have forgotten and desperately need to be reminded. Yet, here we are having a silly argument about silly things.

Oh, now those sound like serious problems.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Ok, I don’t care enough about this issue. Let’s leave alone.

Why are you rolling your eyes with your smilie…infanticide/abortion, euthanasia, same sex marriage, and embryonic stem cell research are serious problems…and those problems are most definitely compounded by politicians who claim to be Catholic, but are avid supporters of all of them.

I agree that these things are SERIOUS problems…I pray that we as faithful Catholics will see the end of these abuses/murders/genocides/holocausts soon for the sake of all people!..

And they are the kind of problems that deserve righteous indignation.

I don’t think it disrupts the flow of the sacramental signs in the mass. That’s simply overkill.

smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_6.gifyou know what Kendy…you tell that to Cardinal Arinze…as that quote comes directly from the Clarifications and Interpretations of the GIRM “Notitiae” Vol. XI (1975) p. 226]
I did provide you with his address/fax and phone number in an earlier post-go for it!

And where do you think the Serious problems started?
By ignoring the small stuff. They grew bigger and bigger.
