Well, obviously the ones in catholic churches are not baptists. This is not complicated. The baptsis church influences the culture.
Man you know I have been to Mass in black areas of NJ (Newark. Orange etc.) I have never seen them holding hands, waving their arms or anything else…why is that? Is the culture of blacks up North different?

Well, if you are correct, this is the reason why Our Holy Father wants a leaner, more devout church.

Are you sure you are up to the task?
The holy father may want a leaner, mote orthodox church, but the pope, who is a very wise man, and not to mention the Holy Spirit, is not going to sacrifice devout catholics who love God over silly things like hand holding. I realize that people on CAF don’t care about their other fellow catholics, but God does.

Because the church exists for the people, and to the extent that the church is being a nag rather than a source of holiness, I am concerned. Everyone seems irritated by this rather than uplifted, and more importantly, this is not a question of faith and morals. So, I think I echoe the majority of catholics when I say, “WHO CARES! GET A LIFE!”
To this I would say.
“Get a Catholic Life.”

One needs not touch a person to be in union with their soul in praise of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

It’s not about “US”

The Pope wants obedient Catholics.
Not those who pick and choose.

And excuse me but on the pink one, I will get miffed.
I’ve been calm and tried to explain things to you and you have now insulted the posters on CAF.

Who are you to judge, sister? That’s a huge blanket statement, is really off the wall considering that we are talking about one issue and makes you look like a spoiled 14 year old who thinks that the world is all about her. If you don’t like the rule, it should change for you. That isn’t how the world works.

How do you know who has been physically abused so as not to handle another human touch? Who has been smacked around so even the thought of holding someone’s hand is revolting. Again to lump everyone in to your world is a child’s point of view.

An apology is warranted to the posters on CAF. I think this will be a good time to retract that statement.

Guys we are getting way off topic.

But I guess I will share my view of hand holding.
I am opposed.
Why, because the Our Father is not a sign of community with eachother, but a sign of community with God. We are praying to God in the Way our Lord taught us to pray. Just after the our father, there is something called the sign of peace. This is the time for community with eachother, and forgiveness of the squabbles that we have had.
So, why put a sign of community with eachother somewhere it doesn’t need to be when we already have such a sign not one minute later.

Back to the Charismatics. Is there something intrinsic in the Charismatic movement that you all find wrong. I know some equate Charismatic with protestant (as the OP seems to have) but this is not true, and some equate Charismatic with liberal (as some have shown by example, wanting to change the mass etc.) but again this is single people, and not the movement itself.

I guess my question is this, does the Charismatic movement seek to make people Catholic in a way that is somehow uncatholic, or is the Charismatic movement a good thing, just some of the participants misuse it.

Yes, many CAF writers care about their fellow catholics but many are also quite willing to excommunicate anyone over the slightest offense.

As for me thinking that this revolves around me, I am hardly in the minority on this. I go to a fairly conservative catholic parish and when I looked around today, many people were either holding hands and using the orans posture. I hadn’t notice before because I wasn’t paying attention.

The only thing that has been upset here is that there are people who think this is important. Whether you agree or not, I am jusr askanced that we even need to mention it. This has absolutely nothing to do with our call to holiness.

And as for your abuse comment. It’s pretty irrelevant. If you don’t want anyone holding your hand, just don’t do it. The hand holding I saw today was very voluntary, most family members.

Pray for guidance.
Especially concerning your suspicion of authority figures.
I am not suspecious of authority figures. But if I am looking at this particular rule, and I am saying it’s unnecessary. If the state made a rule requiring everyone to wear blue, I would also criticize it, it doesn’t mean I want to overthrow the govt.

Okay, I have a flight to catch, which will thankfully pull me away from this for a few days.

I am sorry for this huge derailment of the tread :). But I still maintain, it’s just not worth fighting over. I am very sorry that you guys think this is so important and an indicator that the world is falling apart, but it’s just not. And yes, the opinions of my “religious friends” do matter because they are people who put their faith into action everyday, and I trust them because they live out the gospel in concrete, tangible ways.

No one will be excommunicated for holding hands, and I seriously doubt that Jesus cares. But he does care about how we love him everyday in practical ways.

and holding hands is practical:rotfl:
You are once again really good at missing the main idea. It’s quite obvious that I am not referring to hand holding, but all the other things that I mentioned that these people do to show their love for God in practical ways, most of which occurs outside of mass.

Ready to apologize?
You made a blanket statement about CAF posters against the forum rules.

I misspoke or I’m sorry would work.
