While I think that there is a legitimate interest in protecting Americans and that people are just scared, certain political leaders seem to be encouraging this fear mongering leading to the Catholic Church and the good work it does helping people flee war and unspeakable atrocities becoming targets of hatred and now, death threats.

Here is an article on the death threat.

Here is an earlier statement from the Archdiocese of New Orleans and Catholic Charities:

I am torn on this, as the legitimate folks need help, but the diabolical ones are trying to apparently mix in with legitimates. I am not sure what the answer is, especially under our faith. I really wish the Vatican and Bishops would speak out. Are we comfortable risking security for our country? What is the vetting process the President is talking about? How can we help those in need without indirectly aiding those with nefarious intentions? So confused right now, which is what Satan wants.😦

In the coming days we will see the best and worst of humanity on display at many different levels.

Right now is not a good time for catholic charities to help bring refugees here. Maybe they should consider offering their support in or near these refugees’ own homeland.

Really there are only two conflicting issues here.
  1. American people, Catholic and otherwise, are incredibly charitable and wish to help the legitimate refugees who are fleeing from the terror of ISIS, the beheading, the oppression, and Sharia Law. Offering help to the oppressed and needy is not only a Catholic value, it is very much in the fabric of the US of A
  2. Especially after the attacks on Paris, the American people are concerned for their safety and the safety of their families. While we wish to help the folks who need it, we also have legitimate concerns that ISIS members will take advantage of our charity and use it as a way to infiltrate the country and perform more attacks, killing innocent people.
I dont understand why our politicians cannot reconcile these two basic viewpoints, which I think everyone acknowledges. Why not set up some refugee camps in the USA with basic housing, food, amenities, etc. The refugees will have a safe place to stay with all the fixin’s, we simply ask that they stay in camp.

That way we can help those who need it, while simultaneously contain the potential terrorists. It would be a lot safer than simply dropping off a thousand people and letting them wander the country unsupervised.

It would also provide some short-term construction jobs for people here, so ‘economy boost’.

Just a thought.

As for me, well… I dont have any say in how our gov’t is going to let this whole thing pan out. I’ll do what I can to help anyone who needs it, but I’m also going to do what I can to keep my family and community safe. I reckon that’s the best I can do.

Anyone else have thoughts?
